Picked up the rifle yesterday morning, loaded up 5 and sighted in the scope. Loaded 5 more, shot them for group. Went up 1/2 a grain on the third set of five and shot this group at 150 yards. Figured it was close enough to go look for a pig and what do you know I found a good one.

What load and vel

Mild load, 54 grains h1000, 133 Berger, BR2. No velocity recorded yet. Brass and primer looked perfect. I was just having fun with a new toy. I really dont get to serious about loads till I get 100 or so down the tube.
I just built a 25- 284 last year I didn't have too change any dies I use my bushing 6.5. -284 dies and 284 dies for loading Lapua brass helps too get all the potential out of it. I'm impressed so far it's a real sleeper.

What reamer did you use for this build? I'm really wanting a 25-284..... it may be next on my list

Nice work on the porker by the way!
[/QUOTE. The 25. -284 was wild catted before the 6.5-284 and has load data in the old Speer number nine manual it runs nearly neck and neck too the 25-06 but going a little wild caring myself with all the 284 win parent case wildcats in my opinion seems like the 284 case can take more pressure . Bottom line the 25-284 should have been a factory offering I'm achieving unbelievable velocities with mine in the lighter bullets under 100 gr bullets .I buil mine with a 1-8 twist with a saami spec reamer

It was a JGS reamer speced for the 131BJ. This rifle has a 7.5 twist just for the heavies. Was told that the 115 Berger was a great choice as wellI, but if the 133 keeps on doing what it did to the swine I see no need to try anything else. Going to see what RL26 can offer over H1000. If like my 6.5PRC it will be another 150 fps, time will tell.

Well done Duke!
I'm shooting 124g Hammer Hunters in my 6.5x284 behind 53g of RL 26 with 100 yd same hole results. It also consistently smacks the center of the 600 yd gong at my range. It's a favorite right now and I can't wait to try it on something besides paper and steel.
I wish I had hogs close by.

little bighorn:

Be careful what you wish for. Where pigs have moved in, they are very destructive of agriculture and they reproduce like crazy!
Yes, I've read enough about them to know how invasive they are, but you have to admit they would be a great target for me to check out how effective my 6.5x284 load is on game.
I should rephrase that I don't want want them near me, but I'd love to take my rifle to where they are and help out the land owners while testing out my rig.
