Well, at the spur of the moment I took one of my REM 721's to the local gunsmith for a new barrel in 25.06. I plan on shooting the lighter bullets and plan on just having fun with it. So...How's about some of your pet loads for bullets under 100 grs. It's been since 1980 that I loaded for a .25 so I'm looking for what present days shooters are using in powder and bullets. Douglas premium barrel, 10 twist, 26". Thanks. Also, I can still change the twist number if you guys think that twist won't work well with the lighter bullets. Maybe as high as 100 gr. bullets. Thanks.

I use 85 gr Nosler BT's and H4831 SC. This shoots real good. I use 115 gr NBT's for deer and H4831 SC. 75 gr Hornady V Max and Sierra 100 gr Spitzers also shot well All powder was H4831 and shot so accurate I did not see a reason to change. My rifle is a Ruger 77 MK II VT. Not a custom but shoots like one. Have not found the 25/06 to be very finicky but mine did not like 90 gr Sierra's.

NMK,
Back in 2003 I tried the Sierra 75gn HP with IMR 4064 and CCI BR2's. OAL was 2.6100". I went from 47.5 to 51.0gns in 1/2 increments. Velocity (averaged) from 3322fps to 3611fps. I settled on 49.5gn (3543fps). This particular load showed the best accuracy and least ES (3548/3544/3538) and produced one-hole at 100yds. JohnnyK.

I recently picked up a LNIB m77MKIIVT, in 25-06. With nosler 30-06 resized to 25-06' and 100 Sierra MK bullets, and a load of RL17, it forms literally a ragged hole at 100 yards. Also, I have had good luck with Hornady 100 SP bullets . I tried some 85 grain TTSX bullets, but they didn't do so well. It does shoot the 100 TSX fairly well. I need to play with the seating depth to fine tune it, as I like that bullet overall, but man, those SMK' s are freaking amazing!
I haven't tried anything heavier, as I do also have a box of 117 SST bullets as well. The weather hasn't cooperated , but I would like to give them a try!
This thing is a lot of fun, gentle on the shoulder too, but I'm NOT recoil sensitive either, it's just nice to NOT have to think about it!

7stw, I didn't see this post before asking the question about using the R-17 in the .25-06. So you like that powder for this caliber? I have a pound of it and I want to try it with my 100 gr Sierra Spitzer GKs. I also have a few boxes of the 115 gr Berger VLDs that I want to try. I have IMR-4350, R-17 and R-25 powders to try. I am new to reloading so I'm really excited to work up some loads.

Thanks buddy. Marysville, MO? I've been there a time or two. I grew up hunting North of King City, in Nodaway County. I'm from Lawson, MO. I miss that place.

Well, I guess I have to get some RL powder. This is starting to get better. But, I have a 3 month wait for the gun to be finished. I'm sure the wait will be worth it.

100 gr. TSX
55 gr. of R22
Federal GM 210 primers.

This load is shooting 1/2'' groups and running just a hair under 3200 fps out of a 24'' 1-10 Model 70.
