25-06 ackley

We have been doing a lot of loading with different calibers using r17 and have found that it works better if u stay with a bullet that is in the middle or on the lower end of the bullet selection. the 25-06 ai that we shoot it in shoots a 100 gr barns tsx at 3610 ave and I shot some in a regular 25-06 with the same bullet 53gr and it shot 3420 average. Also tried it in a 243 80 gr ttsx barnes and it shot 3340. Shot it in my 243 ai and 87 gr bullet and it wasn't that impressive so we are now at magpro after trying r19 , r22, r17

all these loads are out of my gun so don't use them unless you work up to them starting from a lower powder charge. gun).

I found great velocity and accuracy with RL17 and 115 Ballistic Silvertips in my 25-06.

I've been shooting a 25-06AI with a 26" barrel extensively in the last year with various powders and heavier bullets. I wanted to stay with the high BC stuff which means the Berger 115gr VLD, or custom made 115gr's, and 125gr bullets.

So far with all bullets in the 115gr range have shot their best at 3330fps, and .050 off the lands with Reloader22 powder, Lapua brass(30-06 Nk turned), and Russian primers. I was able to get 1-1.5in groups at 300m with Bergers, and a best under 1in, 5 shot group with Chinchaga 115gr RBT's. I just could not get the accuracy from other powders.. although I have a bunch of R17 I will be trying. I was also able to get unreal accuracy from Nosler 115gr BT's but they have such a much lower BC then the 115gr Bergs/Chin's. The custom 125gr's I could not get to shoot as well as the 115's no matter what I did.

For those using R17 it would be interesting to hear what your results have been and what loads you have been using? The 25-06AI is great, i wish other bullet company's would start to develop better BC bullets for the 25cal. 25 Cal is a great place to be between the 6mm, and 6.5 so you know better bullets could be made, like a 130-135gr VLD at +/- 3000fps... Berger?
