243 striker loads

ok, just got my 243 barrel back from Schuler for a nice brake. It's ready to go at 16.5" to the end of the threads. I have an assortment of regular rifle powders to start loading with. Does anyone have any suggestions on faster powders that will burn up better in the short pistol barrel. I've loaded 100gr with 7828ssc and had good results with a Sako forester, but I haven't loaded for such a short barrel before. I'm all ears, thanks for the suggestions.

The Sierra manual list for a 15" barrel pistol in 243 Win that Viht N135 is the best with 55 to 90 gr bullets and it gets the best velocity with 100 gr but they suggest H4895 as the most accurate.

The 7828ssc will perform well out of the barrel you mentioned. H4350 is another option if you have any. I have used both of these powders in my .243 WSSM SP .

38 v540 with a 100 grain and a 215 in ww brass

h4895 with a 55 bt and a 210 in any brass...

70 tnt with 41 i4064 and a 210 in ww brass

those were the stellar loads in my striker 516 243 when I had it

Well, I'll stay with 7828, 4895 and maybe varget. I want to stick with deer sized bullets, that's what I bought the gun for.

if you can find the v540, try it. I was getting 2800 fps from a 14" barrel with v540 and the 100 hdy interlock.
I couldn't get rl22 or 7828 over 2650 fps or so in the short barrel without going over pressure....

Don't get too caught up in using faster burning powders in handgun length barrels. I own several 14" barrels chambered in bottleneck cartridges and the loads that produce the highest velocity and the best accuracy use some of the slowest burning powders common to that round. The slower burning powder may not be as "efficient" as the faster powder, but they will usually yield higher velocity and better accuracy.
