Anyone using the 90 gr ELDX have a favorite power? just got a couple boxes to mess around with and didnt know what everyone was using. i was using varget with the 85 TSX. I have bunch of that laying around if i should start with that or any suggestion would be great. thanks guys

I haven't loaded the 90gr ELD-x, but I've shot hundreds of 87gr VMAXs in my .243 Varmint rifle. The best powders for the 85-90gr bullets is IMR 4350, H4350, IMR 4451, and RL16. Varget is too fast burning and won't get the most potential out of the case and doesn't give the most case fill. I'm able to get 3350fps safely with IMR 4350 or IMR 4451. Varget won't get you that type of performance without over pressure.

i do not have any of those at the house maybe i will run and pick up a bottle. did you have good luck with H4350? or do you perfer the IMR 4350

I switched away from IMR 4350 because it's more temperature sensitive than the others I listed. I couldn't find H4350 at the time, so I tried IMR 4451 and have stuck with it. Both powders are accurate and both give 3350-3370fps. IMR 4451 is nearly identical to H4350, both are slightly slower than IMR 4350. It took me 0.3gr more 4451 to equal my velocity I got with IMR 4350. I can't comment on what velocity H4350 will get you, but I'm sure you could get at least 3300fps with IMR 4451.

Dmagna are you shooting the 90 ish bullets or you just like varget in general for .243?h
I was reloading for my brothers .243, which was a hunting rifle. I really like the consistency of varget we have huge temp swings during hunting season. I was using 95 gr Berger's.

I'm using the 108 gr ELD-M in my 6mm (.244 cal) Ackley Improved. 28" Bartlein barrel, 1:8 Twist, 3225 fps. It is in the 2's and 3's @ 300 yards and less than. 1/2 MOA at 600 yards. I'm not sure how much longer the 108 gr is compared to the 103 gr. But I think it would be on the ragged edge of stable. The VLD and ELD bullets are long. Shorter bullets of similar weight like the 100 grain Speer or Nosler would be fine, my brother uses them in his 1:10 .243. But with the longer sleeker profile, I would try something in the 90's with a 1:9 Twist were I using a VLD or ELD. It doesn't some like much, but with my 1:8 Twist the new sierra 110 VLD match king won't stabilize but the 108 ELD

Just recently traded off my last .243 but looking back through my notes I used IMR4831 for some really impressive groups with the 85gn bullets. This was in a Win70 HVB I had. 44-44.5gn (depending on the lot) with CCI BR's would shoot in the .2's. The 85gn Game King was very impressive @ 500yds with 2" groups.

90 & 95gn Ballistic Tips, 44.0-44.5gn of VihtN560/BR2's, also another good load.

If you're worried about temp sensitivity Hodgdon varget, h4350 and h4831 are all very close and all will work with the 243 win. For 90 grain bullets I'd start with h4350. .
