Does anybody have any experience loading these in a straight 243 with H4831 SC? I tried H4350 today and got decent groups around 41.5 but the node was small and I'm afraid it might fall off in cold or hot weather. I can't find any load date on 4831, it seems everybody uses 4350 or H1000 but I don't have a long enough freebore (mag fed) from H1000 without being overly compressed. I'm using the hbn coated Dtacs if that matter.

I have a shooting buddy that shot the dtac out of his .243 using both powders. I do not know his load info, but he did come up with accuracy using both. He went to IMR 3031, the speed was faster then the other powders. I borescope his barrel at 350 rounds, at that time the majority of rounds down it had been IMR 3031, it was ugly. I would either use the 4831sc or try H1000. I shoot the dtac 99% of the time out of my 6mm Competition Match, I load with H1000 only even when I am fire forming. The parent case is .243, works like a charm and is very accurate.... I am thinking about trying some Superformance in the.243.

I just don't really like compressed loads and I know anything above 44 is going to be compressed since I'm staying in mag length. 4350 is not very promising, speed is good but not what I want to see as far as accuracy.

What is your overall length going to be to fit in your magazine? What barrel length?

Base to tip touching lands is 2.844 I believe base to ogive is 2.290. It seems to shoot best ..010 to .015 off. Barrel length is 24.75". Lapua brass.

If that 41.5 of H4350 had no signs of pressure I would give H4831sc a try. QL Shows H4831sc with less pressure to get to the barrel timing, also not compressed. As a side note, IMR7828ssc looked good,no pressure, not compressed, more speed.

Thanks dg, I'm shooting 42.5 to 44.5 of 4841sc right now. What was the charge weights for the obt of 4831 and 7828? I only have a little of each so I don't mind one over the other bc I'll have to buy more anyway and the 7828 will be easier to get around here.

Your welcome js. The H4831sc load is 43.8 grains, psi of 57,205. The IMR7828ssc load is 44.4 grains, psi of 55,932. The IMR load is about 70fps faster on the program. I know the chrono tells the truth. Work up to them. I'm editing this because I just ran H4350, 40.9 grains, psi of 57,908. On QL 41.5grains of H4350, psi of 60,391 which is 200psi above max. I know plenty of us run above max at times, but why do it if you don't have too. you said it in your opening post, that 4350 could take a change on you.

I did shoot a good group at 44.1gr of 4831 but the poi shifted considerably .4gr either side of it. I haven't been able to find anything with either powder where the poi stops shifting over a few powder charges or even a few seating depth changes, just real inconsisten all the way around.

Thanks Don. I'm shooting hbn coated dtacs. Would that make a difference in pressures?

js, moly does but I am not sure about hbn. I have friends that use it and shoot stout loads with no pressure issues. I do not believe it acts like moly in the way of increased pressure. Testing would tell.

I've found 3 decent loads and was wondering if one would produce less pressure than the others. This gun seems to only shoot top end nodes, nothing else is less than 3/4 moa.

42.1gr H4350 at 3050fps wolf primer seemed hot but produced two 5 shot groups under .25 moa

44.9gr H4831sc Velocity unknown but should be around 3020 based off lower charges wolf primer .5 moa

47.6gr H-1000 velocity 3000 Magnum Primer Very low ES for 5 shots .4 moa

js, this is what QL showed for psi per your load info from the start with an oal of 2.844.

42.1gr. H4350 62,974
44.9 gr. H4831sc 62,091
47.6 gr. H1000. 57,343

max psi for .243 60,191

Any questions let me know.
