I have a lightweight 338 LAI with a Proof barrel.

Shooting 300 Bergers and 260 Hammers. I have plenty of RE33, but since it is a hunting rifle (temp sensitive) and a shorter barrel I am wondering if a faster powder or a more temp stable one might be a better choice.

Thanks,
John

What's the velocity you want? I think you should be able to get 2700 at least with it, I would try H1000 or vv565 or 570. I have also heard the H4831sc is good too, might be something to look at in the short barrel

What version do you have? AOL, hunting rifle? Load data? I assume you are an elk hunter?
ha ha yeah you could say that im obsessed with elk and elk hunting!

my version as stated above there really is no advantage or disadvantage to one or the other besides not enough taper in the case and just wanting it to be a little diff here and there..
all mine are hunting rifles
mag feed through a CFE9
3.910" 300 berger

Ya, me too. I live in Spokane and have property in the Elk City / Red River area.
Thanks for the tips. My 338 LAI is a 40* both rifles built by Mark King

H1000 won't get you to the higher node of around 2830-2870 ish. I have a 24" 338 Norma Improved and tried H1000. Shot the lower node around 2750 very well. I could get 2810 without pressure but wouldn't shoot. Switched to N570 and it shoots very good at 2830. Buddy shoots Retumbo and 285 eldm with Retumbo in the 2800 range and is accurate.

My 338 NM improved gets 2850 with 92.7 grains of H1000 and the 300 Bergers.
Pushes the 260 Hammers @3000 with 90.5 grains RL26.
24 inch barrel. Peterson brass. Fed 215gm
primers.
109.1 grains of H2O capacity with this brass.

Was it shooting good at 92.7? I might have to circle back to H1000. I know you were running N570 for a while.
