When my youngest son started hunting with me he was a lil dude, 60 pounds. His older brother was a good bit bigger than him so I bought him an A-Bolt 7 wsm, but my youngest son was way to small for that rifle. I had a buddy of mine call me one day and was at a gun store that was closing down. They had 2 .223 WSSM's in A-Bolts and my buddy talked me into buying one of them, as he has one also and his daughter shoots it. I was skeptical of the chambering for deer, boy was I off! I let him talk me into it , he said if I didnt like it he would buy it from me. well I ended up paying 570.00 for the rifle a set of dies and every piece of brass they had for it and 6 boxes of 7mm 140 grain partitions and a couple boxes of 60 .224 grain partitions :) everything was 50% off. I stared loading 60 grain partitions at just under 3800 fps and the love affair started lol, he has killed over 20 deer with it , and shot his biggest this year (10 point) . he has never lost a deer with it. the 10 point he shot last year with it was at 300 yards. he did make a great shot on the spine and dropped him

Some States don't allow the .22 cal for big game. I was skeptical when we tested ours...not anymore. We used a 22-250 to test our 44g Hammer Hunter on deer at 300y. When you run bullets north of 4000fps they do a fine job on deer!

Looks like your son is still happy with his 1st rifle. I wouldn't switch if I were him.

I think I will try some hammers through it , I need to check the twist but I would think a 44 grainer should do fine

Now he wont pass on a chance to shoot the edge :) but he does love that wssm

Nice pics and great looking son! The 220 Swift and 22-250 have a reputation for dropping rib-shot deer like lighting bolts. 222 and 223 are deadly also in the ribs, but not nearly as dramatic and emphatic as flipping the light switch.

Thank you, I was just going thru my phone pics and realized how far he has come :)

Perfect. In our 22-250 test gun it was like shooting a 22mag. I would expect you to get 4400fps in the wssm.:cool:

I been thinkin seriously about buildin another 223 wssm. what is you thoughts on which of your bullets? a 44 grainer or 64?

4400fps is pretty cool but if I was building one I would order a 7" twist. We just finished a 22x47 Lapua with a 7" twist running an 85g Hammer Hunter at 3400fps. You would be able to run faster than that. We have not fully tested this bullet but it is looking great and shoukd be added to the website very soon.
