my wife has been pretty successful at 1050y hits on a 10in steel plate with the 73gr ELD-Ms.
With that being said, if I didn't have a good spotting scope, I don't think I would have been able to see the splash. Further more, I think those shots might been hitting transonic and possibly tumbling in. Just for funzies. She usually goes with her .308 for those distance for serious work ups, so we never really took much more data then that using .223 at that distance.
