I recently got box of Berger's 85.5's from another member here to try in my suppressed 8twist 223. I was able to get 2820 fps avg.
I was pretty impressed on how it shot out to some 950yd rocks. I could sure tell difference of 85.5's vs 80vld's and 80 amax's.

Anybody have any long range 223 experience to share? Would like to make the 223 into 700-1000 yd "fun" rifle.

I love my savage FTR 223. 80.5 Berger full bore. It shoots to 1000 great. I hit a 18x14 target at 1200 yds 7 out of 10. It's my summer trainer. Trigger time and wind reading practice.

Tank, I have a Savage Mark II TRR-SR .22 and a .204R 12 LRPV, and their performance has been a nice surprise. What do you have in.308?

Ranger, Will try to remember to take pic of my reamer spec sheet later this evening. My rifle is standard Rem 700 built by myself with old wood 40X stock and single shot adapter. Currently using H414 /CCI 450 to get the 2820 avg with the Berger 85.5's in the 8 twist 26" barrel. Sure is fun to push the the 223 out there.

I used to run a pointed 80 JLK at 2920 from a 22" barrel with VV530 in Lapua brass. I was probably a smidge over recommended pressure, but it shot great and I took it to 1200. I ran it several times at the Allegheny Sniper Challenge and placed top half even shooting the pint sized bullets onto heavy steel at long range. I had regular access to a 1k range so I was pretty familiar with the rifle and load.

What kind of difference...accuracy ? About a 1 moa difference from 85.5 to the 80s at that range.

I run a 7twist 223 rem match chambered trainer. Prs limits you to a 77gr bullet and 3000fps for the tactical class. I use the 75gr Berger over 25.4gr varget, cci 400, lc brass... it's very accurate to distance

VLD , cannot give an exact accuracy improvement value as we do not shoot paper only at random rocks that we range to simulate real hunting situations. To me I see the 85.5's bringing the 223 up to close my 6mm and son's 6.5 hit percentage.
