22 creed for target

Here is another 85.5 Berger 22 creedmoor 1000yds 2" circle
That's some crazy good shooting. I've got mine shooting 90 vld's really good but saving for coyotes and wanting something cheaper/available for target. The 90's we're inside 3" @600 in the 6-15 wind/mirage I shot a couple weekends back and barely inside 16" at 1000.

I don't know if one of those is thicker jacketed but I d guess based on Berger's I ve shot in other calibers that the 85.5 might have a shorter bearing surface.

Can't remember the article someone wrote a while back that I read but they re findings and opinion was a lot of the bullet blowups are heat related from long bearing surfaces and long barrrls (friction) They claimed high rpm was less at blame in a lot of blowups. Don't know but it was an interesting read.

I run a 7" twist 22-250AI for mid range F/class and Hunter class using Nosler CC 77g or 80g with no blow ups. The only bullet I did blow up was a Sierra 69g SMK.
I witnessed those 88g ELD-M blow up in a 7" twisted 22 Middlestead at my range.
No one uses them anymore, even the guys shooting 223/5.56.
All but me have gone to the Berger. I am happy with my Nosler bullets.
Lapua bullets will be tried next.

Cheers.

It seems crazy to me that every place I look for is sold out of 90gr bergers. Are they that popular? I was really hoping to hear something different about the Hornady but makes sense that they're available

We found that 75 and 80 grain Eldm s could be driven fast and no blowups. Like 3500+ in the 30" 22 CM with 75 s.

Like the 88 Eldm in my 22GT… shoot it 3050-3100 and it's perfect.

I shoot the 88 grain ELDMs in a 26" 1:8" Shilen Ratchet rifled barrel with a 22-243 chamber at 3450 fps with excellent accuracy, no bullet failures. I tried the Berger 90s at 3350 fps, and about one third of the bullets blew up at about 50 yards. I've shot the ELDMs out to 1200 on steel, and they are still stable and hit hard for a .224 bullet. I also like that the ELDMs are 1/2 the price of similar bullets and readily (mostly) available.

I shoot the 80gr Hornady A-Max bullets in my .220 Swift at 3305 FPS through a 1 : 8" twist barrel , and that twist rate and velocity achieves 297,450 RPM spin rate . The barrel is 6 groove , button-rifled , 26" length .
I have never had a bullet not make it to my target , and I have shot this rifle in 1000 yard F-Open matches .
I have shot approximately 1200 - 1300 rounds through this barrel , and it stills maintains accuracy .

I have not shot any 80gr ELD-M bullets through this rifle yet , as I still have several boxes of A-Max's .

DMP25-06

I shoot the 88 ELDM at 3150 out of a 22" 1:8 twist 5R 22-250AI. No bullet failures to date and they group extremely well. Once I burn this barrel out, I have a 22" 1:7.5 twist 5R 22 Creed prefit ready to screw on. I think the key with the 88s is to not push them too crazy and things will be just fine. Nothing wrong with an 88 going ~ 3250.

Nice! I was hoping to use the eldm's for price and availability. Only have 600 yard competitions close by. Wouldn't be too hard to slow them down around 2900 I'd think but curious if anyone else had shot them much
I'd shoot a 6mm GT or BR with
103 grain VTAC or Berger 109 if I were only running 2900.

I also shoot the 85.5 in a 1-7. Havnt lost a bullet yet at 3350
Yeah, was thinking to stick with Bergers. No experience yet, but had a feeling those 85.5's will hold together better than the ELD-M's. We'll see. Son's barrel is 22" so might help being shorter. Also might try the 70 gr Badlands Super Bulldozer and the 70 HH or 73 AH to setup for hogs and deer...
