Does anyone have any load data they would share for a 22/284? Putting a 8 twist together next week looking to shoot 75-80gr! Maybe try the 88 eld to.

Ross Seyfried wrote an article about that cartridge in Rifle or Handloader several years ago (probably about 2001) that included some decent load data- I would get a hold of that article if I were you.

"To appreciate all it will do you'll need a fast twist in the 1 in 8 range...
80 grain SMK's are the bullet to use... .020 off is where they usually do best...
RL 25 is a good powder or any of the slower burners...
50 grains will get you started, and go from there....
215 Mag Federals will help also..."

Several threads said many of the bullets will come apart so choose bullet wisely.
I was amazed to find formed brass available:

In some of the threads I read they talk about a very short barrel life of 500-700 rounds or so. Having had a custom 6mm-284 with a bartlein 5R 1 in 7.5 twist that never got hot, it died at 950 rounds, I can believe it. IMO I don't see any advantage to the 22-284 over a 6mm-284 but the fun is in the trying stuff. Come back after you have it shooting and share.
FYI I built a sporter 6mm-284. I use new 24" 243 Rem takeoffs, rechambering them to 6mm-284 myself. Shooting 55 gr nosler bt @ 4100 with varget. when the barrel dies I do it again for the cost of a takeoff barrel.

Iv got serval fast twist 22s. Had good luck with them. Running a 75 amax at 3550 in a 8 twist never had one come apart! I know its gona be ruff on barrels but just had to try it. Ha ha. Il back up and shoot the 64gr hammer if it starts ripping jackets! Thanks for the info

H1000 with mag primers is what I found works best. Pm me for details I've been collecting 22-284 data for a few years now.
Had one but never shot it much. Traded it for a 7mm Dakota a while back. Mine had a 27" Brux 8 twist #4 contour. Only shot 80 gr Bergers. Used R25 and N570. Both powders worked good with a slight velocity gain with the N570. Good mode at 3550-3600 fps.

One of the guys I shoot with had one, I believe he was shooting 80gr Bergers or maybe amaxs using reloader 25 and launching them in that 3500-3600 fps range... it started going south around 6-700 rounds at the end bullets were vaporizing about 25 yards from the muzzle... it was fun to shoot and very accurate until that point... he rebarelled it to 6.5 creed and doesn't figure he'd build another one just due to the barrel life ...

Barrel life doesn't concern me if i can get a load worked up less than 100 rounds. Iv got one 223 wssm iv rebarrel 5 times! So it when it burns up il do it again! Thanks for the info

Ha! I was strictly trying to convey what my budy experienced... not trying to talk you out of it... you're talking to a guy that has gone through a couple 25-06ai barrels trying to achieve 4000fps with 70gr bullets in my gopher patch... lord knows I'll be getting another barrel spun up....
