Thinking the 22-250 would be cool shooting the Barnes 78g TSX (designed for the 224Valk) also might shoot the 88g ELDM at steel. Probably build off of a Savage 110 storm or similar (for switch barrel) 18" 22-250 barrel (shillen)

Goal: light wieght deer/hog gun for my kids and wife for when I move back to GA.

What twist would I need? Considering the 22-250 has like at least 50% more case capacity than the valk and could shoot these bullets 30% faster I know I probably wouldn't need 1/6.5 or even 1/7.... Maybe a 1/9, 1/10??

What do you guys think?

My 1:8 22-250 AI shoots the 88 ELDMs well, but has a little extra horsepower over the standard 22-250. Once you start to get into the mono's like Barnes, Hammer, etc, you're going to need the extra twist. I'd think a 1:7 would work.

Hey, I recently had a 22-250AI put together in a 1/7 twist. The only load I've fired with formed cases has been with 85 grain Barnes Match Burners and for a test load it looks promising. I have some 78 gr Barnes waiting for some more fire formed cases. I'll post results in here once I have some. Take Care, Rick

I would do a 1-7.5 or 1-7.7 twist. That will work great with anything heavier than 75Gr. The 1-8 twist will work as well, but may not fully stabilize the Barnes or the 88s.

When I lived/ stationed in GA it was mostly swamp lands and heavy brush. I'd think a 308 Win using 125 gr Ballistic Tips might be a better option or a 6.5 Grendel for a light recoiling deer/pig rifle.
