Looking for a powder and min/max loads for a 22-250. I will be running cci br2 primers or gm210m. Barrel is 28". The only powder I have on hand is varget, H1000 and retumbo. And I know the last 2 will not work. I am trying to work up a load for 80gr SMKs. I do not have any info in my reloading manual. Thanks for the help.

The 80 gr loads I have in my manuals dont list usage of any of your 3 powders!

I sure hope you got the proper rifling twist for that size of slug!

Klemm,
Berger lists IMR 27.5 start 30.8 max for 80/80.5 gr
IMR 4320 28.5 start 31.7 max
H4350 31.0 start 34.5 max
RL-19 32.5 start 36.1 max

No H1000 for any weight in this caliber.

Twist of barrel is 1:7.
I was looking for a powder that was not temperature sensitive.
Is reloader 19 good for big temperature swings?

To-19 is known to be temperature sensitive. H4350 would be good, if you can find it, and it works well with bullet, barrel, and primer.

Just out of curiosity, on the Hodgdon powders website, they are listing a load for Varget and H 1000.For a 70 grain bullet Am I missing something?

These "helpers" are stuck on single base WWII powders. Reloader 17 is what I use in my .22-6.5X47 Lapua. Reloader 17 is a new formula powder (beyond double base technology) that is produced by NitroCheme in Switzerland. It has more energy, ignites easier and is less temperature sensitive than what we loaded .50 BMG with during the war. My rifle has a touch more volume than the .22-250 Remington but uses small primers. I shoot 80 gr MKs at 550yds (the end of our range). My 80 gr Sierras go at 3200 fps. I can push them to 3400 with a few more grains of R-17 and still not have the primers fall out but I would have to size the case bodies. At 3200 I can get by with my Wilson sizing half of the neck.

Hunter is a Belgian double base ball powder with a similar burn rate.

Incidently, I have tried the Sierra 77 gr tipped MKs and I am convinced the tips melt and give them inconsistent accuracy and less velocity at the distance I shoot. The 75 gr PRI Serbian bullet is also accurate with R-17 in my rifle and it costs 16 cents. All of my bullets are HBN coatted and my barrel has been nitrocarburized to last longer. I also trim the tips with the Montour County Rifles tool. That is why I wanted the tipped Sierras (I bought a thousand) to work but no cigar. I have not been pleased with the Hornady 75 A-Max but I am not similarly invested.
