22-243 middlestead 1-7 twist(25” barrel)

I'm loading for a 22-243 and would like to know what velocity I should expect with 88-90 grainers. I have loaded 90 vld's with 45 grains of reloader 25 and got 3100 FPS. I have a x caliber barrel and didn't have much luck with 75 -80 bullets as far as accuracy goes. if anyone has loaded for the 22-243 or anything comparable with 88-90 grain bullets I'd appreciate any info.

I have a 224 Terminator which is Defensive Edge's version of the 22-243 improved and similar-ish to the 22-243.

I'm using 80gr ELD-M with RL26 and that combo shoots very well from my 8tw Krieger barrel.

No. I've tried 80 noslers, 80 bergers, 75 eld's, 70 bergers, 88 eld's, and 90 vld's. The 90's have shot the best. I have ordered 90 and 95 Sierra's.


I checked my notes and I did try the 77 tmk's. Without any luck.

I think you're a little bit short on velocity compared to what my Bartleins are shooting. I have a node between 3250 and 3300... But it might just be your barrel, I don't know since I don't shoot X-Calibers.

Be careful running those lighter bullets in a 1:7" twist at high velocities. The RPMs will have a negative effect on those bullets.

The 90 gr. Berger VLD is losing a little BC even with the 7" twist. The 95s will not do well because of the additional length. Use the Berger Stability Calculator to check your numbers.

You should be able to achieve a little higher fps, but as stated earlier, your barrel dimensions may hinder or not. I run above 3,100 fps with 88-90's in my 22/250AI's with 7828SSC

Loaded 80 grain bergers in my buddies 22-243 today. He has a 21" barrel and we loaded 47 grains of superformance. We loaded the same piece of brass four times and the primer pocket was still a little snug. 3325 FPS was the velocity.

Location and ambient temperature will have an effect on the stability also. I'm running a couple of different .22 Creedmoors as well as the .22-243 and the AI version. Right now I shoot at 400 feet above sea level and an average temp of 80+ degrees. So the 95 grain Sierra in the 1:7", while stable, loses some BC. But when I return to the desert, I'm at 6,000 feet and 80+ degrees which makes the 1:7" perfect+.

I'm running ADG brass for the .22 Creedmoor which beats the daylights out of necking down 6mm Creedmoor by a substantial amount. It's also the reason I'm giving up the .22-243 in favor of the Creedmoor.

Loaded magpro in my 25" 22-243 today. Started with 42 grains (2950fps)and went up to 47.5 grains (3270fps). 88 eld shot lowsy. Also shot one group with H1000, it was promising and too dark to continue. More to come.

Shot a few more groups with H1000(47 grains)and 88 eld's. 3/4" groups and that seems to be all this barrel will do. 22-243 middlestead and 25" barrel.

What kind of brass are you using? What kind of sizing dies are you using? Maybe try some h4831 or rl23. Were do you live?

Remington brass and Redding dies(non bushing). North central ND.

I use norma 243 win brass for my middlestead. I'm shooting a 75gr vld in a 9twist. I also run a 7 twist 22-250 with the 88gr eld with great accuracy using h4350, h4831, h1000

That's a lot of bullets without finding something that works. How many different seating depths you trying with each bullet?
