I am new to this site and saw a listing of someone asking about the 22-243 A.I...............Well I have been shooting this Savage 112 VBSS action with a Douglas XXX barrel since 1997. Great on anything from 10 feet to 1151 yds. I shoot win 243 brass fireformed , turn necks to .256 add CCI primers, Rel. #15 or Varget powder from 41.5 grains to 48 grains for outstanding shooting.
Shoots in the 3's @ 100 to 300 yds then opens up to 1.75" @ 800-850 yards. !000 yds are 3.5" to 12" depending on the day(me really) I love this caliber with the exception of barrel life........Shoot it like you stole it and you get 2200 rounds and the throat is gone. Shoot it like its your baby and get more, meaning shoot and let cool one minute between rounds, well I like to shoot when Prairie Dog shooting and I can't wait......so I am on my third barrel in 13 yrs. My pet load is 44.5 grs Varget to shoot all day. You can use standard 243 load data to work up loads for different barrels.

The Best Part of this caliber::: you will get the highest flips of anyone and constant hits in high winds at 500-700 yds.
Most shots fired in one day: 588 rounds.

I shoot all Savage rifles...............22-250 VLP Varmint rifle, 22-250 A.I. 110 action with Savage 112 VLP barrel rechambered.
The 22-250 is easiest to shoot overall, then 22-250 A.I. and then 22-243 A.I. because of reloading...............all my guns are heavy from 14lbs up to 19lbs so I don't need spotter.

Good Hunting

Here's what my 22-243AI could do with a careful handload using RE22.

That is a great target..................I was told years ago by Fred Moore at Sharp Shooter Savage that the 75gr A-Max in the 22-243AI would shoot through a bowling ball at 1000 yds and none others would. So I put a ball out to 830 yds, far as I could go that day, and put a target on it.........shot 5 shots, couldn't tell I was hitting the ball at all, went down to see and found my 1.75" group........Sent copy to Fred. We took same ball and shot with every other cal. around........from 22-250, 220 swift, 25cal, 30cal, 50cal, full metal jacket to armor piecering bullets, nothing else went throught the ball, just knocked out chunks..........................

What kind of speed do you get with the 75 amax in the 22-243AI? And what twist are you using?

I was considering rechambering my 12fv in 223 with the 9twist barrel to 22-243ai. Would it shoot?

I get 3200fps with 43 grs Varget and 3740 with 47.5 grs Varget, I have shot 30 gr V-Max bullets @ 5620 fps but they blow up before 75 yds. I use 1-8 twist. One of three barrels I had in 22-243A.I. would shoot 3890fps with 48.4 grs Varget, but the other two wouldn't due to pressure signs.

You should be alright with 1-9 twist with 75 gr V-Max bullets..............any heavier you would just need to try.

Don't have a tight chamber cut, I don't think its needed unless you like neck turning brass.

This cal. is also a great deer round too.............

good luck
