215's shine with 1:9 twist. I'm having a 300 PRC built. Was suppose to be for 245's but with a 22" barrel I'm afraid Ill be disappointed in the performance. So I've considered sticking with the 215's. How much velocity loss going from a 1:9 to a 1:8?

And if I did stick with the 245's, I wonder if a guy could hit that 2800fps with N570

From what I understand twist rate is not going to affect velocity to a noticeable amount, too many other factors are going to have a greater influence.

Take a look at this

Not a PRC, but I shoot the 245/N570 in my 300 RUM and can only get to 2830 FPS with a 27" barrel. It is not a fast barrel, but even at 2700 ish you are still good to 900 yards (sea level).

Can you get 245s? or even 215s?

You might hit 2750. You'd just have to see how much powder before you hit pressure.

Thanks. I have a 300 RUM as well but haven't made it that far yet.
And yes, I have lots of both. 😏

I see some guys post some pretty incredible numbers with the 245/300 PRC, but I just pressure up to fast. Only way to tell is test it.

I like short barrels. I have a 20" 308. I just put together a 338 Sherman with a 22" barrel. Going to do some FF today.

Twist won't make a difference in velocity. There will be no advantage in running the 245s that slow just more recoil.

Stick with the 1&9 and run berger 200,205,208, or 215s. You could do that with a 1&10 twist to but 1&9 would help if you wanted to run the 230s from berger, Sierra, or Hornady. 215s and under will be a better fit all around with out knowing the purpose of this rifle, whether it be a light hunting rifle or a heavy target gun.

I already have the Bartlein barrel in a 1:8 ready to go. Too late for me to do a 1:9. That's why I was curious on if the 1:8 would work. We originally bought the barrel for the 245's but now want to go back to the 215's
