205gr. Berger Elite Hunter in .308 Win??

Subsonic?

the 308win has a sweet spot with the 155-180 class bullets in a 1-12" or 1-10" twist. Going heavier than that is great in subsonic loads but gives up a lot of performance to the 30-06, 300win mag, etc. so finding loads in that range for a 308win might be uncommon.

not saying it can't be done, but on this site where LR is the name of the game you might get some crickets. Best of luck- be patient and do some digging, don't get discouraged, and welcome to the forum!

Your biggest issue may be magazine length to accommodate that bullet. There is data for 200gr- 215gr bullets as they are commonly used in FClass competitions. They single load though and have long throats to keep from seating bullets too deep taking up powder capacity.

I played with 200 plus in the .308 in a 20 inch barrel. I ended up with a very accurate 212 eldx load but velocities ended up around 2400 if I remember right. I'd have to check my book for the powder I used. Still got 50 loaded for short range hunting.

I know this isn't exactly the 205gr but here's a thread about the 215gr in a 308 Win. It should give you an idea of what would work (powder) and what to expect (FPS).

I would start with around 45 grains of Reloder 17 at 2.950ish and go up in charge weight from there. I am at 47.7 grains of Rx-17 with the Berger 210 Hunting VLD at 2.935" OAL with Lapua brass. Single loading of course.

FTR guys run 200.20x with Varget and Lapua Palma brass. They're running a longer freebore than SAAMI though. Typically an FTR chamber has 0.150-170FB and this allows you to get the 200gr bullets seated out of the case and gives you more room for powder. They run hot loads and get 2650-2700 with 30-32" barrels.
