2022 Winter Nilgai Hunt

Guys I.m going on my first Texas Nilgai hunt. My guide service is unimpressed with my 300Wm. What caliber should I take? I was told cows top out at around 500lbs and shots are under 300yds.
I could use your input please
I'm going with the .300 Win Mag at 300 yards with a 180 to 200gr bullet, and he's unimpressed. 🤔 So what would impress him?

Show him the pictures attached. It's a one shot kill of an eland antelope weighing over 1700 pounds and taken with a shot at around 350 yards with a 300WM and a 180gr Swift A-frame. The guy standing by the eland was about 5'9" tall to give you a perspective. You can tell him it's the largest of the antelope and ca clear a 10' fence at a run.

I think your 300 Win Mag would be great. Bullets that I'd choose would include 200 grain Nosler Partition. Swift A-frame bullets are also great. I'm definitely not a fan of Accubond, though it seems some are.
----- right bullet, right placement -------

I had to look up Nilgai., I'd never heard of it. I hunt Aoudad and Gemsbok, and they are supposed to be tough. The trick is to know their anatomy. Since it is a meat hunt, use an all copper bullet and shoot through both shoulders. Even a grizzly can't run with both front shoulders broken. Google shot placement on Nilgai.

A buddy and myself have a Nilgai hunt on the book for late November. This is what our guide provided:

When hunting Nilgai, one will want to use a premium bullet. All copper preferably. We have
had very good luck with the Barnes Vor-TX ammo or if loading your own, then load the TTSX or
LRX bullets. The Berger "HYBRID TARGET" works well also. Federal Premium with the gold tip
has proven to be good.
Of course, any round and probably any caliber will take a Nilgai with placing the shot in the
perfect place. But we have found that even with the 6.5 calibers and using the Barnes TTSX or
LRX bullets that the bullet will go through both shoulders on the fully matured bulls.

We are taking a 300WM and a 338LM. Going for a bull and cows. Going thru with LOMAS CHICAS OUTFITTERS. Be practiced in shooting up to 400 yards off of sticks. It's hard to move a bench around.
I've kill 3 of them with my 338 LM right in the heart and they still ran off and they don't leave a blood trail jus very little at first then it's hard to track them and they run wild down south TX so could run a mile or so on to other property

A 300 mag is enough...now I prefer a 338 as that is what I like--but shoot further forward and lower than you think of. Also a good bullet. My wife has used a 338 federal with a 200 grain bullet...ran about 125 yards and rolled up..I have shot them with a 7 SAUM and as big as a 375 RUM... they are tough but sure not bullet proof.
