"NOT" looking for any debate, just sharing a "real world" experience. I already know many have success with it. Yesterday, my buddy harvested a nice 6X6 bull elk at 426 yards with his .300 WM. The bull was feeding in an open meadow when the shot was taken but managed to run into the timber at ~2K yards. All four of us search for nearly over 2 hours no luck. Another hunter that was watching the event below us stumbled to the bull elk on his last gasp of life, apparently it was loud. The other hunter lead my friend to the bull and finally expired when they got there.

Anyways, it was a double lung shot ~ 3", small entry with extreme blood shot but no exit wound. The only evident blood trail was around 3-4 yards before he finally dropped. It looked like he drowned internally with his own blood.

Just like any bullet things happen. Watched a mule deer crumble in half with a 200 grain eldx last week at 899 yards. This was his 6th 1 shot and drop animal with eldx. 2 were elk. All over 450 yards.

I don't reload 300 WM yet either but I wanted to try out some different bullets in
my new rifle. The ones Wolf76 mentioned were on the list. I have some 200 ELD-X
to try also? I can't just let it sit?

Negative! But did not really try that hard. We have two bulls down and we were pressed for time ... it was a tad warmer than we wanted to.[IMG]

Dang, I hope mine hold up. I leave Wednesday morning to Montana with my 7mm Rem mag with 162 ELDx. I've shot several hogs and a couple of deer here at home and they dropped where they stood. Haven't recovered a bullet yet. But elk are a lot bigger then our deer. Hogs can be tough too and I've not had a problem blowing through them out to 400 but still not an elk. Can't wait to get out there though and send one to the boiler room.

Understand how that is. Nice bull though. Bet your buddy was going crazy to find it.
