I just picked up a 1938 turkish mauser barreled action in good shape. Im cosidering rebarreling the action to .308. I have always wanted a tack driving sporter rifle and i love the old mausers. Does anyone have any tips on this action. And if any of you have any please post pictures.

This is my first small ring turk. After reading i guess its from ankara

Just my opinion, mind you,,,,, but I'd be leaning toward a Yugo 24/47 for a .308 build. Much easier to 'deal with' than a Turk with that overly tall charging guide. The scope mounts will come alot closer to fitting with fewer alterations on the Yugo. The 24/47 is well made and the surface is "harder than the hubs". It accepts all '98 triggers & safeties, and scope mounts made for '98s that don't require removing the clip charger 'hump'. Not so with the Turks. I'd question their manufacture methods, too. They grow nice walnut there, from what I've seen of their rifles.........

I have a m48a in a yugo also that i had considerd for the swap. But it shot so well in 8mm i left it alone. I havent shot this turk yet...
