181 HH, 300 RUM

Well, just ordered my first hammer bullets to try in a 700 AWR, 300 RUM. Too bad I won't get to play with them until May, but to hold me over until then, does anyone have any good loads for the 181s in a RUM? Brass will be fully prepped Remington, and I've got Retumbo and some H1000. What speeds are y'all seeing from 26" barrels? Any info would be appreciated!

For the regular Hammer Hunters, just follow suggested loads for Barnes Bullets as a starting point. Barnes recommends R 26, Retumbo or Magnum for ~2900 fps

I shot mine this morning. I didn't try the RL-26 yet. I went with 98.5 Retumbo at 3440fps out of a 24" barrel

3440 is smokin! I was gonna be happy with 3350 from a 26" barrel. What's your jump? Hoping to get them to shoot at mag length. That gives me high hopes for Retumbo, and I've got a bunch of it, as my Sendero shoots 215 Berger's very well with it. Thanks for the input.

I'm .25 off the lands. It shot so good. I don't think I will try 26.

No data on the 181 HH, but Steve at Hammer recommends Nosler data as a start. Make sure your barrel is indeed a 10 twist. My 10.25 would not stabilize the 181 HH.

Retumbo 97.5 grs 181 Hammers 3440fps too hot
27 1/2 inch Brux 10 twist 1 inch groups

RL 26 91.0 grs 3370 fps shoots 5/8 groups. shows promise.
RL 26 93.0 grs 3417fps shot 5/8 groups too hot.
27 1/2 Brux 10 twist
I did not finish load development because of hunting season.
I have some other loads but I can't find them. Will try to find them after elk season.

Let's bump this. I have some more 181s coming for my rum. ADG brass, H1000, 7977, xlr chassis and very soon will be a 9tw 26" proof barrel. Anyone else running 181 hammer hunters?
