Is there a caliber out there that isn't a fire form wildcat (one step neck down "wildcat" is fine) that can send a 180 Grain bullet at 3400 FPS or better and shoot/group well? This would strictly be a hunting rifle. Action length doesn't matter. Bolt face doesn't matter. Barrel Burner doesn't matter.

I dont believe 7STW, 7- 300 WBY, 28 Nosler will get you there

Looking more towards 7mm because of better BC. Any input would be appreciated. 28" max Barrel length, preferably a 26" Barrel

Thanks

I have ran 180 eldm's up to 3300 with reloader 33 in a 28 inch bartlien while doing a ladder test with my 28 nosler . I had light ejector marks there, The best accuracy was at 3275. A long barrel 28 nosler would probably get you there, finding a bullet that holds together and shoots good at those speeds may be another challenge.

How'd those 180 eld behave at 3300? Any fail in flight?

Ok, I've shot the 181 HH and the 180GC out of my Sendero 26" at 3300 with RL26 with very slight ejector marks on the Win brass. But @ 3325 ejector marks were heavy imprinted on the Win brass, bolt lift though was slight, Fed 215 primers not flattened so I stopped there. I am working on a 181HH load with Peterson long brass that needs to be worked out early next year after hunting season is over. I'd like to be at 3300 with the Peterson brass so will see how that goes. The 181HH shot well 1/2MOA at velocity but the 180GC was not as receptive to the high velocity at well over 2 MOA at 100 yards.

I would think you could get really close to 3400 with longer barrel just out of a 300WM with 181HH, good brass and that magical RL26 pixie dust if you could find it. I wonder if the 178AH might get three but not sure if RL26 is right powder to do it. I may try it for hoots.

3360fps with 30-378 accumark... and 26 inch barrel Retumbo and 180 Accubonds... This is the same load thompsons long range has their scopes set up for...I am guessing Reloader 26 , Reloader 33 or maybe N570 could get a 180 to 3400fps
