172 Absolute Hammers for 280ai

Getting my 6.5 saum ironed out to shoot 140 elites so looking at options for my 280ai for dedicated elk rifle. its 26" benchmark carbon barrel 1:8 wondering if anyone has tried the 172s in it? Though may be an interesting choice

following, ive been thinking the same thing cant find my 175's
at the moment i run the 175 elite in mine with the same barrel but 24" at 2805fps, worked great on deer this year

Was thinking about making it a dedicated elk or bigger rifle and keep my 6.5 for deer and lopes

I would imagine with less pressure would have to move from H1000 for my 168s to sthng a bit faster? i may hit up steve directly get his take. I know I wont get much over my 6.5 saum in velocity or energy but one heck of a hole and penetration for elk moose etc. Not that i will every afford do hunt a moose

Id been interested in what he's got to say, i use H4831SC for my 175 elite load it gave me the best accuracy and velocity combo in my barrel. I built mine for eastern WA, Idaho, and Montana mule deer and maybe elk.
I do most of my elk hunting in western WA and i use a 338-06 with a 210 nosler partion

With me getting my new 6.5 saum to shoot 140s possibly 156s i just dont see a need for my 280ai. it shoots the 143HHs pretty well at 3180 with H4831sc and 168s to 2860 i know not real fast but scary accurate but at 800 yds they dont beat the saum with 140s so trying to find a use as dont need a back up i can shoot my daughers 7/08ai or my kids 270wsm in a pinch

I just ordered the 154 AH dead blows to try in a 280AI I'm putting together. Mainly for deer though. Backup rifle for elk.
