Brass for these little 17 Hornets is ridiculously priced, usually around $28-$30+ per box of 50, and is sometimes hard to find so I've always bought loaded factory ammo and after I have a few hundred rounds of once fired brass I start reloading for it. I use 12.2gr of 1680 w/20gr Vmax and a small rifle primer. As you can imagine, a pound of powder goes a long way in these things so that helps and the more times you reload the same piece of brass, the more it lowers your cost as well. For me, what makes these 17 Hornets so much more appealing than any of the rimfires, is the fact that the ammo, even the factory stuff, is so much more consistent and once you start reloading for these you can really dial a load in. With the rimfire stuff, like the 17 HMR or even the 17 WSM, the ammo can sometimes have a significant variance in how it shoots depending on that particular Lot# and when all you can ever use is factory ammo, it's kind of luck of the draw on if your gun will like that particular Lot#. Shooting inside of 100 yards it's not that big of a deal but when you start stretching your shots out past 150+, it becomes a big deal real fast.
