Hello everyone, newbie here. I'm new to the forums, but I've been shooting for most of my life. I have recently bought everything needed to start reloading for my 7mm rem mag, and I've hit a snag. I was planning on using berger 168gr vld bullets, but I couldn't find any local to me, so I bought some 168gr accubond long range bullets. Since I was planning on using bergers, I bought some retumbo. Nosler doesn't have any data for retumbo, and hodgdon has no data for 168gr bullets. Would I be safe to use the data that is in my berger manual as a starting point? Has anyone loaded with this combo? Thanks in advance for any insight.

you will be just fine using any 165-168 gr bullet data from Hodgdon or Berger or any other bullet maker with Retumbo just don't start at max.

Good luck with the Retumbo... I couldn't get any loads with Retumbo to shoot in any of my 7mm RM's. Apparently none of mine like it.

Give 7828 SSC, 7977, or H1000 a try, if you have issues with the Retumbo, like I did.

I have a couple of loads with the 160 grain bullets with Retumbo that shoot pretty good but I get the same accuracy with H-1000 at higher velocity, in fairness though my 7MM RM barrel is only 24".

I used Retumbo with great results in three 7 Rem mags with 168 gr bullets. The bullets were 168 Berger classic hunter hybrids. Don't see an issue with you using a different bullet, just do as another poster suggested, start low and work up.

Pet loads with the Bergers 70-73 grs.

FYI of the powders listed on Hodgdon's loading site for 160 gr and 162 gr bullets Retumbo yielded highest velocities.

Here's a good source for reloading data...

Remember to always start at the low end work your way up.

Also, I would agree with previous posts that you will probably achieve better results with H1000. (not saying you shouldn't give Retumbo a try though).

Why the 168's? The 180berger hybrids might extend your 'reach' a little if your plan is to shoot waaaaaaay over there.

Very good luck here with retumbo and 168 VLD's.

71.0 grains, cci 250, win brass, 1/2 MOA out it, very pleased.

Im interested to hear how H-1000 has a velocity advantage over retumbo, i'm getting 100% burn out of this load in my 26 in. barrel according to quickload.
