That is a loaded question lol.... this current rifle is running a 26” finished with the brake 1:9 bartlien. the key is the velocity stays between 2600-2700 fps which allows the bullet to perform at point blank range and out to 1100 in the right hands. I shoot this gun in comps as a well so when I shoot the barrel out I will go with a 20-22” 7mm 08 AI or SAW variation and look for 2600-2700 fps at that length.

COAL is 2.947ish CBTO is 2.040 / Varget 40.6 / CCI 250 and Lapua brass and because I swapped out bottom metal I ended up having to jump .070 to the lands with zero issues. Ave velocity 2738 / ES 6

My brother and I argue about this all the time. He likes the eldm, me the eldx.
The M was designed for target shooting the X was designed as a hunting bullet.
Im wondering what twist rate youre shooting the 162 out of. Alot of 08's dont have the correct twist for the heavy bullets.

9 twist will stabilize the 162 from any .284/7mm cartridge.

9, 9.25 twist should do the trick and do it well. I think you could even get by with a 9.5 twist.

Update on the 162 eld-M ….

9 days solo in the Maroon Bells Wilderness - right up the road from my house. Hard to get Early season rifle tag above timberline wilderness hunt.

"SENT IT” 840 yards, 17º slope angle - I was at 10,700 buck was at 11,500 hiding in a southwest facing jungle. He gave me a quartering away shot and I slipped the 162 ELD M in my 7mm 08 between the last two ribs angling towards the off shoulder. Bullet entrance was a 2” hole under the hide - it destroyed virtually all vital organs except the heart. He made it 10 yards before piling up and zero meat loss from fragmentation. Ave. MV 2738 / ES 6
Good hunting and great shooting! Congrats

Nice work! We killed with 162Ms, 180Ms, 225Ms and trying out 285Ms this year. All performed very well. Seating depth is the only thing that drives me crazy with them. Never know what they will like :)
What ballistics calculator do you use for the eldm's? I've been using JBM's free calculator and was curious to how well it matches up.
