150 gr ct ballistic tips on deer

I have a very important whitetail hunt coming up and my 30-06 loves the 150 CT Ballistic tips. I'm nervous on the performance of them on animals. I shot a Antelope with them in the boiler room and it took off like it was never hit but then fell over dead 50 yards away. Can I shoulder shoot a deer with these loads? I have been trying 150 Barnes ttsx to shoot but they are not nearly as accurate. anyone have experience and/or pics from experience with the CT ballistic tips. Forgot to mention the shot will be 300 yards or less. Thanks.

I have hunted with 168 grains Ballistic Tips since they came out...before that it was 165 grain Ballsitic Tips...mostly in the 308 though (started with the '06 last year)

Thats an exit hole you see there, that bullet entered the other shoulder and destroyed it...and thats what I've seen on the 30 or so deer I've killed with 168 BT's.

I've never used the 150's in anything...but I expect they'd work fine provided you don't push them past 2,900 fps or so...

The 125 Nosler Ballistic Tip in .308 at 3000-3200 fps was the go to deer bullet for several hunting buddies and I for many years. We used the 150 and 165 also, but eventually settled on the 125 as ou favorite. Relax, the 150 will do fine.

they'll be devastating... load 'em in front of 59 grains of IMR 4350 and you'll get great accuracy as well. Work up, max load...

50 yards and a dead deer. what more do you want. Ive seen deer with there internals turned to mush but a 300 mag go that far. there isnt a deer on the planet thats not going in the freezer after being hit by a 150 bt out of an o6 in the right place. Anyone that tells you differnent just hasnt shot enough deer.

I use the same wt. in my 7mm rem mag. Have not had one run mor than 30 yds. Shoulder shot? Yes It will do. I also have taken deer out to 350 yds and got the same results. Good luck.

I also used the 150gn Ballistic TIp in my 7Mag for years and never had a deer act remotely immune to it!

It also killed a 350lb black bear at 15 steps - went through both shoulders completely - DRT.

I was using a Rem 700P at the time (my youngest has it in Minnesota) and my load was 63.5gn of IMR4350 and 9.5M. Velocity avg. 3234fps. That's fffaaaasssssttttttt.....and it's accurate!

I also like 64.0gn of IMR4831 w/9.5M. This load produced probably the tightest group this rifle has ever shot. A .178". Velocity averaged 3139fps.

I did forget my load. I ues 67 gr IMR 7828 at 3258 fps. The groups are 3/4 in or less. All in a ruger M77 MKII with a floted tube. The best group before was at 100 yds was 2 in at best.

I used it in my 7mm Sendero last year for a nice whitetail at 85 yards. He trotted off about 50 yards just out of sight - and fell over. Half his heart as well as his lungs were gone but apparently it took him a minute to figure that out.

That type of behavior is typical for whitetails.

I would not worry one bit.

shot over a dozen deer each this year with one of my 7mags and my 7stw both using the 7mm 150 bt and only had one bullet that didnt exit and tore up a bunch of meat and that was one i hit in the back bone at 200 yards with the stw and i doubt the outcome would have changed a bit if i had partitions or tsx bullets loaded at the time.

Update: I had success! 150 gr CT ballistic tip shot through front shoulder and exited opposite side mid section. End results is a 153" whitetail dead. Can't post pics at this time as I'm still in Wyoming but will post soon.

Although it took him about 35 minutes to finally yank the trigger he did make a perfect shot on a beast of a buck. One of the coolest bucks i have seen. The pics dont do it justice
