Does anyone have any load data with this bullet/caliber combination? I have plenty of info for 140 grain, but don't know where to start for the 147's. My available powders are Rl23, RL26, and H4831. Thanks!

Start with 52.0 grains of Retumbo and work up to 55-57 grains. My cousin shoots either 55.0 or 56.0 in his 6.5-284 and gets 2950fps with the 147gr and it's very accurate.

OP, did you ever work this combo up?

I'm looking to start development with the 147's and retumbo in a couple of months myself.
Yes, I tried H4831, Reloder 23, and Reloder 26. Reloder 26 had outstanding accuracy and the best velocities. I've loaded for several eldm's and I'd advise doing a seating depth test at 10, 40, and 70 thousandths. I've gotten the nest accuracy at the 30-40 thousandths area.

What was the load data? I had loaded a few but found 26 to be faster than retumbo. I lost my notes on it but what I loaded had already showed pressure. I think I was at 53 or 53.5 grn. Thinking about looking at this again or RL 23. Like saving my 26 for my 300 rum. Best load I have developed for it.

I'd shoot a pressure test from about 52.5 or so as stated above. My load is 53.8 grains of RL26, 210M's, Lapua Brass, .020 off with. 0015 tension. Gave me 3015 earlier in the year @ 80 degrees. Havent shot is over a chrony since it has cooled off, but my dope still seems to be on.

Hey guys...recently had a 65/284 norma rechambered in a 24.5" shilen barrel for my remington 700 action...

My closest with a Berger 140 vld is only 3.119...and a friend has his and another buddies shooting nosler 142 lrabs at 3.249" oal...
Book says max oal at 3.228...my berger again is only 3.119...
That's close to an 1/8" difference and to me basically ruins the idea of having this chamber....
Has anyone else ran into this situation..and been able to figure it out or do I need to get the barrel chamber rereamed....it was PTG remeamer..purchased new for this rechambering....am I gonna be stuck buying a throat reamer to allow for the full potential of this chambering.....
Thx

I have had this issue and I had to get the throat lengthened. My problem was the Smith used a real short throated reamer, a 6.5 284 win reamer actually. Not sure of the freebore. I felt the same way. Super disappointed that I couldn't shoot the heavy 6.5's in it, defeats the purpose completely.

I think the most popular 6.5 284 PTG reamer is a .188 freebore. Any idea what the freebore of the reamer used was?

The smith had actually rented a reamer and it was a 284 win...after reading about the differences between the two I told him I wanted the one that I could fit lapua brass into the chamber....which he ordered and received and used..it is/was a ptg reamer...so now I will have to buck up and get a throat reamer to fix the problem....
So as of now I am unsure of which reamer he may have bought but the lapua brass does fit nicely into the chamber....
To make it work likes of my buddy's I will have to have that throat reamed another .138"...basically 1/8"...
That's is a lot for the throat to be short..when playing with very small numbers.....is this the problem that persist with ptg?

Hmm that's interesting. My new 6.5 /284 with 147 I started at 54.6 with Reloder 26 based off QuickLoad and speed from 24 inch barrel was 2910 and I got to 3000fps at 56.0 gro_O
My Oal is 3.080

Not sure what to say about that. 54 grains gave me 3000 feet with only 10 rounds down the barrel. Decreased charge as the barrel sped up and I settled at 53.6 for 3015.

Varmints are showing up here so I shot it yesterday in 30° weather over the chrony. Right at 3000 fps, used that dope to shoot the 800 yard gong, then drove up the river and shot a coyote at 550. So I'd day it's right.

27.5 inch Brux Fed 210M's, OAL of 3.105
