Shot a yote yesterday. Took 2 to the body and a final head shot. 1st was at 660 but the follow up's were 220. Penciled through. Been using eld for wolf and yote and switched to the 135 for 2020. 135 a top has been a hammer but really hoped the 144 would be laternative. Fluke or no? Only thing I've shot with it so far. Leery now

Those are pointed right? If so they look very similar meplat to a 140 RDF - we tried for a year to like them. NO expansion, we tested it on a lot of small game, very similar to fmj's.

I'd stick with a non pointed hpbt if I were you! I'm sure it'd make ya sick to lose a wolf due to no expansion.

Personally I LOVE to tinker with projectiles/terminal performance but when the game is on the line I always go back to the known performers.

I shot a coyote last fall (2019) @ 860 yards with a 153 A-tip in a 6.5 creedmoor and it penciled thru him, that could be lack of speed, but who knows. But I got the coyote just the same.....switched to a 142 accubond for the creedmoor and use the 156 EOL in my PRC....

We have open areas and wooded. In day I can be thicker timber to open desert. Yesterday i was. This was in the morning looking for wolves. Headed down to some range land to check there and saw the yotes.
Ive using the 135 a tip and been happy. Just like alternatives. The 144 shoots well but so does everything in prc.

The 156s don't expand once velocity drops off. They've been penciling through beyond 550 yards or so out of 6.5 prc
So 1800 is the threshold for the 156 on smaller soft game in your opinion? That wouldn't surprise me if so. I've moved away from berger mostly on predators. I've shot 13 wolves, and probably 25 yotes with hornady eld and a tips and have had excellent results. The 144 and 156 shoot well so I was looking a alternative with all the ammo shortage bs.
