So a while back I was messing around with my deer hunting load shooting it at distances I hadn't shot before, I hadn't shot that load past 700 yards. And it wasn't until recently I went out and grabbed my gong stand that I usually leave out on the range, this gong lives at 1026 yards from my shooting position. And I found that I had hit the cross bar that holds the target, penetrated the front side and almost left the back, I dumped out the parts of the bullet that were trapped in the bar (the picture only has the larger pieces), and was surprised it appears as though the bullet expanded, I don't know if that is to be expected when hitting a small steel bar, at 1000 yards, but I was surprised. The bar is 0.65" wall and my load is 6.5 Creedmoor: 42.0gr RL16, Federal 210 Match Primer, Hornady 143 ELD-X, in Nosler Brass, MV 2850. I found it interesting thought I might as well share.
