Which brass, bullet and primers do you have?

Sorry. I have
100 new Hornady brass
100 new Lapua brass

Berger VLD 140 gr
Hornady ELD 140 gr

CCI
Federal
Winchester primers

RL16
Varget
H380 but not much
IMR 4350
And a few others just got to find where I put them

I don't have a chrono right now. The war chief (wife) won't let me buy anymore "gun stuff" for a while.

I have yet to see a 6.5 not shoot the 120smk or eld extremely well. Both varget and 4350 have produced 1/2" groups at 300yds just about every trip this year. If you have a shorter throat the bergers are better to start with. Once it starts to move the 140elds and then the 147's can lengthen the time to a set back/new tube.

Thank you all for the reply's. I have been looking over load data from all the powders. I will start loading a some tomorrow. I was thinking on doing 5 at different weights working up. Then of course I'll change powders, primers and bullets. Hopefully I'll have time to get several done before I get called to work.

When I get a chance to hit the range up, I's gonna have to do break in the barrel. I have some cheap factory ammo for that.

Imo don't over complicate it, you can burn through a lot of components & powder when you don't need to.
Your idea is good though, work on both projectiles with the 1 powder before even thinking of another.
Go through the process, changing CBTO as well.

In my 1st rifle I reloaded for I did way to much when I didn't need to, I found a 1/2moa load but wanted to see if I could improve that, while we all want to shoot 1/4moa groups realistically you done need this for a hunting rig, even if it is LR!

I shoot a Christensen Arms Mesa, 6.5 CM, 1:8" twist, 22" barrel. My preferred bullet is the Nosler 140 gn BT for hunting, and my load is Hornady brass, Federal 210M, IMR 4350, 42.4 gns. This gives me approx 2720 FPS, and 100-yd groups below .4 moa. I have a good load for H4350 also, below .4, but I can't get H4350 consistently in my local stores. I played with IMR 4064, StaBall 6.5, W760, and IMR 4451, with all these powders around the .5-.8 moa.

I would strongly encourage you to do your load development with a chronograph. I would put a shout out to those on the forum to see if you could meet up a fellow shooter and borrow a chronograph, if need be. If you cant do that, then I would work in developing the load at ranges that that would show you the velocity deviation via impact elevation. 300 yards maybe. Unfortunately, I am speaking g from experience when I say that I've found many ¹/4-3/8 moa loads at 100 yards only to find out later that the es was 30-40 fps, which makes long range predictability really tough.
As for you components, I think that the Lapua brass will give you better accuracy results, typically, but the hornady brass can be decent in this cartridge and will likely have significantly more capacity for powder. So, as crazy as it sounds, using that brass for a rifle with a shorter barrel like yours may not be a bad idea. (I hope I dont get beat up for that comment). Of the powers you listed that you have, I would probably go with the Varget, since it is an extreme powder, and wont give you fits with temp changes, but I think any of them could work. I dont have any experience with H380. I dont know if any of that was helpful, but I hope so.

Hi. That's a nice rig! Looks like you got what you need to get started and either the Varget or the IMR 4350 are suitable. I've also used RL-15 in my 22" Creedmoor with more than acceptable results. I think .020 off the lands is a great place to start, just check to see if that will be accommodated by your mag (unless you want to single feed). With regard to primers, be aware that Federal 210s are soft and in gas gun applications, or where floating firing pins are involved, can be prone to slam fires. It's not likely but if you're running the gun hard and it gets really fouled, it could happen. Given the choice, I'd run the CCI primer.

Bang4theBuck's comment on the chrono is a good one, but if you don't have access to one, try to get out to 300 yards and if you can keep the vertical dispersion to .5 MOA or less you should have a decent load on your hands.

With 140s you might be running a little slow if not happy with your velocity drop down to 130s you'll get up near the 2900 or higher

I finally finished my build of a 6.5 Creed. It is a 22 inch barrel if that helps I have found different loads that vary a lot in the data. I have RL16 and a few more but no H4350. I plan on starting .020 off the lands.
Thanks for the help
