Alright guys. I've got lapua brass 140 vlds fed 215s and h1000. Whee would you guys start with charges in a 6.5x284? Just lookin for insight from those who have done it. Thanks in advance
I have been loading 56.8 gr of H1000 with fed 215's with great results in lapua brass. Berger book starts at 52.5 and max at 55.5 @ 3.228 COAL. Hope this helps. My validated velocity is 3040 fps
When I barely seat the bullet and close the bolt on it it leaves me with 3.14. How far back do ya think I should try? I'm not good at the development part at all haha
I typically start .010 off the lands. Start low on powder charge and slowly work your way up till pressure signs. You may and may not get to Bergers max charge, every rifle is a little different, just find what works for your rifle.
Its good to see someone getting the velocity out of H1000. I never was able to get a consistent load with H1000 or the velocity to make me want to change. I was using non mag primers also. Maybe the mag primers is what is needed. I did not play with it a lot because I already have another consistent load for my 6.5. I started trying retumbo as well which it seem to be more on the consistence side of things and it was making about 100fps faster than my Hybrid 100V load. But I have a turret built for the 100V load so already have money on this 100V load. It will be interesting to see what others get with the H1000. gun)
Yeah the results seem to be split down the middle so I only bought a pound. If if doesn't work no big deal and if it does work I'll get a big jug. All part of the fun. If you don't mind me asking what's that 100v load you're using?
49.5 grains hybrid 100V
fed 210 match primers
.100 off the lans
140vld berger
2845 fps 24 inch factory barrel 116 savage
down fall is this load is to hot during the summer temps. I get pressure issues with it. good to about 65 degrees in my rifle but for some reason my rifle has even seen pressure issues with over the counter rounds as well during the summer so I was going to try a less powder load and try to hit the same velocity with it so I could shoot during the summer as well. I think the H1000 are the retumbo should be very close during the summer and winter temps since its a temp stable powder. hybrid 100V is not.
That's good to hear mike. I want to practice with the same load all year long so I'm hoping I can get the velocity I need. If I get to 2900 with accuracy that'll give me expansion past my self imposed max. I went to the range yesterday and shot 4 shells at 54 55 56 and 57 grains of h1000 with fed 215s and had no pressure at 56 and a heavy lift at 57 so I'm probly going to end up between 55.5 and 56.5 and that should do it!
