Hey so I recently acquired an AR 308 platform with a 24" 1/11 twist barrel. Never used anything but a "10" twist 308. If anyone has or is running one and wants to share I would like to use it on my steel target range out to 600-1000 yds. I figured 155 BTHP -175 BTHP but I am open to lessons learned to save money and R&D time. I will work up. Thanks.

Jim

I shoot an 11.25 twist 308. A 155 scenar is probably ur slipperiest bullet at that weight class.
I've moved to 168 eldms, I can drive them just as fast, pick up a little bc, and they work for hunting.
I've also used 178 eldx, my magazine limits case capacity, I can only run 41gr of varget for them.
Pretty much stick to the 168s now, but I've been playing around with 200eldx and they group very well at close range. Need to get more loaded up and test further out. I'm also going to test 212eldx.(both are single feed and won't work on an ar I'm thinking

I have a Remington 700SS 5R Milspec .308 Win. with 1 : 11.25 " twist , 24" factory barrel , shooting 175 gr. Sierra Match King and 175 gr. Tipped Match King bullets , using military Federal brass , Win. LR primers , and Varget powder @ 2740 FPS , and IMR 4064 @ 2705 FPS . Both measured through Magnetospeed V1 . Cartridge O.A.L. is 2.815 " , that feeds through my Mod. 700 BDL magazine .
I have used this rifle and loading in the Texas State Rifle Assn. F-TR matches at 1000 yards and 600 yard competitions . The rifle and load holds 1/2 MOA vertical at 1000 yards , but my wind reading is not the best , so horizontal is broader , but I did score 1120 out of possible 1200 at 1000 yards , and 1143 of possible 1200 at 600 yard Texas State matches , using my 4.5 x 14 hunting scope .
1 Wyoming antelope at 620 yards and 1 at 450 yards .
Bottom line is THE 175 gr. SMK is QUITE CAPABLE of excellent accuracy and killing power .

I'm working with the 175TMK and 178ELDM with varget. at the moment in a 12tw rock creek. The #2156, 155 smk is another bullet that shoots very well if you can push them hard. I plan on ordering the 158 hammer target at some point. However as summer approaches my trigger time gets limited severly

Well it seems that it loves the 155gr custom competition noslers. (.790) I can work with this at 300 yds. Holy crap. And i got them on sale for 59$ for 250. Gonna stretch them out next weekend and let you know. looks promising though.
