  • hi, my best friend is a smith in jasper and has built a few rifles for me, but is going to iraq as pipe inspector , so im looking for a new smith .
    Hi Jerry
the barrel was done by Lilja, i offered the gunsmith over here who is the dealer $500 for another barrel but he rejected the offer, he wants to replace it but it will cost me $$ to send it also i dont want to wait another 6 mths for the job to be done. Jerry have u reloaded the 230 Berger in the 30/378? i am having conflicting loading data, i will use 2218 (50BMG) and the 20n29 Vaht. Canu suggest starting loads?
    Cheers

    Hello Ray.

Where did the barrel come from ?

I would not have been happy with it ether. The finish is about normal but the nick
from the milling process is not. The mullet doing the fluting should have rejected
it and gave you another barrel.

They will probably tell you it will be Ok but that remains to be seen and proven.

If it was a job I was doing for a friend I would send it back and have them send me another.
    (Not repair that one).

    Hi Jerry
got the rifle back, noticed this on the fluting. I am a little ****ed as i expected a barrel with a good finish. What do u think?
    Cheers

    Jerry,
I have a 7mm x300wsm. New brass no problem. However once fired brass will not resize to fit the small chamber. Would it be best to polish out the chamber or to purchase a small case wsm die set? I own the reamer it has cut only two chambers. 21 buck, Andy
Want to go with a Lilja, 25" finished length, stainless & fluted. Contour is where I have a problem deciding. I am wondering if the # 6 is going to be a bit heavy for carry. Heavier would shoot better, especially in a magnum, but it would not be as nice to carry. Maybe the # 6 would be OK in this particular rifle. Please go ahead and order it. I will send you money for it as soon as you let me know the cost.

I tried to locate the picture of the diamond finish you referred me to on Long Range Hunting but could not locate it. Can you please give me a better description of how to find it.

I am really psyched about getting this project under way. Fun, fun, fun and more fun.
Thanks greatly for your help. Al

Will it be a problem with a fluted barrel if I decide later on to take an inch off the length of the barrel?

I haven't decided on laminate or using the H S Precision I have. That decision will be made by the end of Christmas week end though.
    Jerry:
Coy is a good friend of mine. I spoke to him yesterday, and he killed 8 hogs yesterday. Find the number he listed in the previous posting or call information for Flomot, Texas and get his number. It might not be too late, if your friend could make his hunt very soon.
Temperature has an effect on bullet flight , but humidity has much more .

If it was cold and dry it should have gone higher if sited in with high humidity.

It sounds like I made a believer out of you about the weatherbys accuracy potential.

    Good shooting

Also, I found that even though my load had lost 22 FPS, it was hitting one foot high and four inches right. I got it all sighted in for a real 500 yards, and she presented me with a very nice three-shot group that measured 1.54 inches. TACK DRIVER. When I missed the deer, I had gone up 9 MOA from what I thought was a 500 yard sight in that actually was 515 yards, and somehow my POI had shifted up a foot and four inches right. Is that a phenomenon of denser cold air? Anyway, I believe I shot over the deer now. Maybe I'll get one more chance before the season is over. One thing for sure, I know it will be operator error if I miss. Thanks for any input you have. Best of luck.

Jerry, you helped me last fall when I was working up a load for my new Krieger barreled Sendero. Afterward it shot a 1.9 inch group at 500 yards. I left it sighted in that day for what I thought was 500 yards at my local club. Two weeks ago I took it hunting for deer, took two shots at 855 yards and one at 900 yards, never touched hair. I used ballistic adjustments in several programs and felt comfortable on everything except the 40 degree temperature swing. I didn't see the bullet impact. Saturday I went back to my club and shot this time at a lasered 500 yards and found that I actually had sighted in before at 515 yards. See next post

I read a post in which you stated that you had built a Weatherby Mark V action rifle and had very good accuracy results.
I have a Mark V in 340 WM , #2 contour , 26" SS , muzzle-brake , mounted in an ACCUMARK stock with full aluminum bedding block and action fully glass-bedded . Best accuracy achieved with factory ammo was 2 1/2" @100yds . Reloads only slightly better . I sent rifle to KREIGER BARRELS for examination . They removed completely and then re-bedded the aluminum block , straightened the action , and then re-bedded the action into the stock .They could not make the rifle shoot any better than before , 2 1/2" factory ammo and 1 1/2" using their reloads .I asked Kreiger if they would re-barrel and square the action using one of their heavy -contour , cut rifling barrels and they declined .
Do you know of any barrel manufacturer , or custom gunsmith ,who could re-barrel and make this rifle shoot sub-MOA .
    I live in Texas.

    Thank You,
