7mm Mag

Was curious on the lack of 7mm mag love (discussion). Just don't see it as much as I thought I would.
the research I've done seem to make it a great long range hunting round to the point it is one my very short list for my next gun.

It's not there's a shortage of 7mag guy's, but the topics like that tend to get left alone because it almost always turns into a ****ing match,

Well that's my take on it anyway

I have two of them (Browning A-Bolt, and a Custom Mauser) and I love the cartridge. Fast, Efficient, and when you do your part, hard to beat. I've taken many animals with mine, and some at considerable range. But, just like what has been said, Opinions are all personal, and some want to defend their position to the end. Finding your caliber is like finding a wife. Some may just be more desirable to you!

Ive just been looking at BC charts and the BC + Energy of the 7mm Mag seems really hard to beat.
Should be well suited to take anything in North America- no?

It is, I've put more meat in the freezer with the 7mag than all the rest of my rifles combined, that includes my 243 that got handed down to me 30yrs ago. It really is and old friend

Never shot a 7mm Mag. but in 2008 when I moved up from my .270W after 45 years, I dropped the 7 idea & went straight to what the guides in AK that I had read about in the articles over the years used to do their hunting with. In my logic I concluded that the 7 was more like a 270 on steroids than what I wanted to move up to. I wanted to move up from a hammer to a sledge hammer and the umph from a 7 just was not worth it for a poor boy with one gun mentality. I ordered a Tikka T3 SS Lite 338WM for $575 and met my budget and I will not be undergunned in the USA another time.

Good info, I can understand that angle and it plays in.
Its a trade off - a little bit better ballistics or a little bit more energy.

Seems I was wondering some of these same things. I can't argue with what anybody has said at this point. I know that for my purposes, it is plenty of gun. I have enjoyed the two I have had. I am becoming curious of what will happen if Berger get's that 195gr lined out an in production. I am going to see what some of the more experienced guys come up with when they start testing it, and go from there. It will probably be more popular for the heavier 7mm's, but I think it could be a great bullet for the 7mag also. If the outlook is promising, I see a rebarrel with a little longer barrel to make up a little velocity and a brake on it and see how it goes. I sure do like shooting my sendero right now.

You are right, and no GOOD reason. The seven mag, always has and always will be a fantastic cartridge. It has all the best attrbutes wrapped up into one. High velocity, manageable recoil in any configuration, and not fussy to load for. I personally have three of them. I have a 700p, a LSS, and a Wincester M70 synthetic. And I'm guilty of drooling over a few others that I might have to own too!
I think we are all guilty of shooting the newest whiz bang that comes along, but when all the dust settles, the old seven is STILL worth it's weight in gold. Pretty **** tough to beat a good 7 Mag. And most of them are good!!

Confirmed everything I though so 7mm Mag will be my build platform.
No who wants to loan me some money...

You pretty much nailed it. Although, if I were going to do a custom build, I would think about this cartridge:

If I had the money laying around to do it, I would do it. A little more messing around reloading and whatnot, but has proven to be a great performer for many of the experienced guys using them. The nice thing with the 7RM though is like stated before, simple reloading, manageable magnum recoil, shoot anything in North America.

I am thinking about the same...... However what would be recommended in a LEFT handed model

I am planning on a Savage 111 to start out. From there upgrade stock, bed, etc...
