H4831sc or H1000 with CCI 250 primers. 4831 with 140s H1000 with 150s, although H1000 with 150s will likely be compressed for best results. If you have a 10 twist and don't mind having a loaded round over 3.5"s long the 165 Matrix vld over Retumbo with a 215M may be worth a try, should be able to get 3150 with Retumbo/165 combo.
 
I am not comfortable with compressed loads....my 270 WMag is a 64 German Mark 4......at the present I an loading R-22 with 68g for the 150 Barnes....but with to find the best for that gun....Compressed?..What should be my concerns? Thanks for getting back to me,
 
A compressed load makes no difference, if its a safe pressure its a safe pressure compressed or not. Just never use a powder that you have to compress so hard that it could cause the bullet to come unseated. Also a majority of the time compressed or densely charged loads have a tigher ES and SD because of the lack of air space in the case and not letting the powder shift.
 
German Weebe, Mark V, 24" barrel, IMR 4350, CCI Mag Primers, Nosler 130 gr. BT. At 3200fps. <> safety, accuracy, velocity.

How many g's are you using with H100..& the 215 primers.....? Can my German 270 mag handle the 165 matrix? anyone have a formula? Thanks to all on the tread!
 
I was using 75grns of H1000 under 150s but mine was on a savage action. The german mark v won't handle the 165 Matrix because the twist is to slow, it takes a 1:10 or faster twist, if memory serves correct the german mark v is only a 1:12 and you should probably shoot 140 accubonds over H4831sc starting with about 68.5grns.
 
Again thank you for your wisdom on such matters...yes , my gun is 1:12 twist....so far the barnes 150's are hitting the target with 68g of R-22...now if I could get a good group....Is the 140 Acc-bound a sufficient elk round?
 
The 140 accubond is just as good as the Barnes IMO, the 12 twist may be causing not so good groups with the 150 Barnes.
 
I shoot 165 Matrix vld. It is a Rock 8.5 twist bbl. 71.5- 4831sc
3192 fps , at 1000 yds it is still 1900fps.
That bullet is the best thing to happen to the 270 wby. It adds 400 to 600 yds to the long range shooter.
 
Backwoods....I will try your 140 accubounds.....what is your recommended powder, primer and load?..thank you....I believe your right about the grouping....which was about 3"...
 
My load for the 140 accubonds is 74.5grns RL22 or 73.5grn H4831sc with a CCI250 primer in Norma brass, both work good, the 4831 load is less sensative than the RL22 but sometimes 4831 is hard to find so I use RL22.
 
Thanks BW83.....I will try it....just got back shooting 68grns of RL22 with the Barnes 150....2 were in the same hole....but my barrel was hot! Should this be a concern....the brass showed no signs of pressure..and I am 1 Grn under Barnes max for the charge?
