I recently shot a pig (200# boar) at just over 500 yards. I used a LSR built custom 7mm WSM with 168 gr SMK moving at 2900 fps. I had this pig and a smaller one at 770 yards the evening before, but could not shoot at it due to some deer hanging around in the line of fire. This rifle has been a real shooter for me.

Congrats. It seems 2900 fps is a little slow for the 168. Was that the max velocity you could get or what your rifle liked?

Where did you hit the pig and how did that bullet do? I have a new 7WSM and haven't shot it yet because I haven't decided what bullet to use yet. Somewhere between 140-168gr.

Velocity was what my rifle liked with the 168. Three years ago I shot a doe at 736 yards with this rifle using the same load.

Sorry no pictures of this one.

The shot was through the lungs with no exit. Pig ran about 60 yards. I had some wind to deal with so I did not shoot for the behind the ear shot I prefer. I could not get a good read on the distance from the pig with my Leica 1200 range finder. I ranged him for about 15 minutes using the brush he was near. It was an overcast day and that may have been causing the ranging issue.
