I am absolutly new to reloding.
I would like to reload .243 wit 85 gr Barnes TSX,to be used in a CZ 550.
A friend who has some experience recomended to use IMR 3031 powder and we have some Winchester large rifle primers No WLR.
Are this components O.K.?
I would like some advise from you, since I can get some other powder brands like Hogdon or Alliant.
Any input will be apreciated.

There are many good powders for the .243 with 85 gr. bullet. I think 3031 is a little fast for that weight. I would try Varget, RL15, H4350, in that order. Get a good reloading manual, and drop maximum charges they list by 10% for beginners.

Had very good results from slower powders like IMR 4831 and RL22 in my rifle with the barnes. Also in my experience barnes like to be pushed fast.

just got done getting my load figuered out for the .243 with 85 gr TSX bt I went with 45.0 grains of hunter and fed 210m primers. work verry well for me out of a savage with a 1 & 9.5 twist . good luck

I just recently worked up a load using IMR3031, CCI BR2's and 85gn HP SGK's. 37.0gn's averaged .3" @ 3233fps. Not benchrest material or screaming fast, but good for a whitetail hunting round.
In this same rifle, I have gotten great results from 43.0-44.0gn of IMR4831 and the 85-90gn range of bullets. JohnnyK.

I tried a few powders but the best was Vit N160 infront of a fed 210 .very good velocity and accuracy.I like the tsx, drive it hot and hard and break bone.

Our best work with this caliber with 90-105 grain bullets has been with IMR-4350. I think the recommendations for a faster burning powder with the lighter bullet is good advice and Varget or IMR-4064 would be about optimum. I lean towards IMR.
