Looking to purchase a accurate, lightweight 7mm magnum bolt action for an elk hunt next fall. My go to in the past was the Remington Custom Shop but that is no longer an option. Want to stay under $2000. Who makes quality similar to the Custom Shop nowadays?

Not a remington, however - we have had MANY customers build 7 SAUM, 7mm Rem mag's with Proof Research carbon fiber prefits on tikka actions with mesa precision arms altitude stocks.

Price slides in right at $2150 depending on action configuration - weight on these guys is right at 6.5 pounds. All of them have shot lights out!

Food for thought. If you need help, reach out!

How do I get in touch with you?

Seekins Precision makes one hell of a rifle that can be had under 2k. Plus they put a fast twist in their 7 Rem mag. Long actions weigh just above 7 lbs and with the right scope can be kept well under 9. Hard to beat for the price. Plus their CS is second to none. Had a rep tell me that even if I cut the barrel in half, they would still warranty it

I have one of these that consistently shoots 1/2" with hand loads. Shoot if for a year and if you want to upgrade, do what North Idaho Hunter said. The mesa stocks are nice, as are the Proof barrels. There are $10 springs online that will get your trigger pull down to 1-1.5 lbs.

..no need to spend that kind of money on a hunting rifle, hunting is not a class of benchrest shooting...your target ranges in size from a basketball to a beachball, any modern bolt action 7mm rm can easily hit that, if you can.

Tikka rifles shoot well and are light weight. I have two Tikka rifles in 7mm mag and both are accurate.

Look at the super light weight Weatherby Rifles. Both the Mark V and the Vangard's are available in Non Weatherby Calibers, and they have many that are sub-MOA. Might be worth a look !! I love, my Mark V Ultralight Rifle , 5 3/4 pounds, 24inch Fluted SS barrel, in 270 Win.

I only own factory rifles, but this sounds like a lot of great components coming together for a solid rifle, at a reasonable price!
