I have 2 Tikka's. 6.5CM and a .308. I mixed up the mags. Anyone know how they are different ?
The Baretta website shows different part #'s. But they seem interchangeable.

At one time I think the 6.5 mags were slightly longer (2.98?) vs 2.82 or whatever they made the 7-08, 243 and 308 at. They may all be 2.98 now I'm not sure. Those are internal measurements, you can use a 30.06 family mag if you need more room they all feed fine.

Measure your followers. If one is longer, it's for your CM.
I built my 6CM from a M-70 Classic 300WSM. Couldn't locate a follower for 308 but was able to order a box, spring, and follower from Winchester for the newer FN 6.5CM. Fit perfect. Mag box was the same as one I had for 308 so I could have got by w/ just the follower which is most likely the same. Case width is the same between the two. SAAMI has 308 OAL @ 2.810 and CM @ 2.825 so not much difference. Longer feed lips would go to 308 though. I would bet they are both the same but just feed some of both cartridges through them and that should tell you.

Might be that one magazine has a binder plate and the other doesn't

  • The binder plate holds the cartridges back from the front of the magazines and guides them past the bottom of the feed ramp. The maximum cartridge overall length (COAL) that will fit in this magazine is 2.870".
  • The magazines without front binder plates allow a maximum cartridge overall length of 2.960".
