308 subsonic hunting bullet

that bullet was designed purely for subsonic use.

if you use anything but trail boss or a similar bulky powder, be sure to stuff a cotton ball down in to the case to keep the powder from moving when it's turned horizontal.
I have been looking a all the specialized Bullets but seems like only ones available are for 300 BO and they require a much faster twist than I currently have

Thanks

Buck

I think the leading cause of baffle strikes are crush washers on ARs, they're just flat not the correct part to use to install something that needs to be aligned, but people keep doing it.

Followed by loosening while shooting, an unsquare shoulder or the threads being cut wrong, then any of the tolerance stacking assembly errors that comes from incorrectly using QDs, muzzle devices, or threaded parts of serviceable cans. All my bolt actions are either direct thread or the large shoulder TBAC 338 mount because it's simple and has fewer parts involved.

Legitimate baffle strikes from stability should be rare. In his case it's low probability, but marginal setups bear a little more scrutiny.

That's why I was testing down so slow, to see what happened and avoid an oops. I'm about to work up a subsonic 308 load for a 20" 10 twist, I'm starting with TB and 190 Sub-Xs.
Let me know how the sub-x do
I give up on finding any TB and searched high and low until I found one lb of tin star so that is what we will be testing

Thanks

you'll find most are for 300blk due to that's what most folks that shoot 30cal subs are using.

when it comes to subsonic shooting, heavy projectiles are your best friend. in return just like with shooting heavy projectiles in supers, you're gonna need a fast twist.

realistically, i would go lighter than 180gr on subsonic shooting, but that's a personal thing more so than anything

I just got some Lehigh ME's to try in my 300 BLK. The reviews seem very promising. Here's a link to a YouTube guy who tests both Hornady and Lehigh.

Yep thats the sub-x bullet i (somewhat referred to), in my post above. Also i disagree with the you tube makers "over penetration" statement for hunting purposes this will be better suited for a blood trail exit hole for tracking.

Anyone with experience with a good bullet for hunting whitetail. Ours are small so needs a bullet that expands quickly and the lower velocity. Any recommendations? I have been looking but all seem to be sold out except for faster twist 300 blackout. It will be a 308 win with 1:10 twist 26" barrel. I finally picked up some tin star powder it is supposed to be the next best thing to trailboss but it is unobtainable now.

Thanks

Buck,

Forget about "modern" bullets that are designed to expand; they usually don't at subsonic speeds. Lead MUSHROOMS giving you the wound channel that does the job.
I shoot a .30 caliber airgun 24" 1:10 barrel (Quackenbushairguns.com) just into the transonic range with DEAD SOFT LEAD bullets (hollow point or flat point [Large Meplat for caliber] from 118 to 170 grain) from https://hunters-supply.com/index.php and have taken multiple whitetails up to 350 lbs (on the hoof) with no problems. Shot placement in the vitals is the key. I use a Donny FL silencer https://donnyfl.com/products/2-x-10-5-inches-emperor-v3 with the 6" extender; i have had a herd just stand pat puzzled (on a regulated urban cull) by why some of them them were dropping one by one. Maybe that was because they are dumb to hunting pressure but I think they really didn't hear the report from 120 yards away.
Talk to the folks at Hunters Supply and read the hunting stories of folk that do it with COLDARMS on the Quackenbush site.

I will say after using these lehigh defense 194, they flat out work. 5 deer so far, furtherest one made it was maybe 30 yards. Only one bullet was recovered and it looked the same. I will say there is probably no way these will stabilize in a 1-10 twist. My 308 8 twist would not, keyholes at 25 yards. An 8 twist 300 blackout is good with them. Those maker bullets suggested earlier look like are made to perform in a 10 twist, i would start there. Hornady subx have good reviews but only critter i have taken with them is a fox. I didn't feel the need to switch because the lehigh defense work so well. Trailboss powder is perfect for subsonic 308 loads as others have suggested. I use h110 for the blackout.

Here's a subsonic expanding bullet that will function within your twist rate limitations. I've used their 250g and 260g to harvest several deer and a few hogs.

I have a email out to this gentleman to see if these are available
