Powder Availability

Part of the problem is people like me. I am new to serious reloading, so I don't really remember the "good ol" days when I could go out an buy a pound to try out. When what I've been looking for became available, I bought a ton. I have a supply now that will likely last more than a lifetime. I will continue to buy powders just to have variety, no way am I ever going to be affected by a shortage again.
You learn the first go around that you need to have enough to get through a shortage. You learn the second time around that you need enough for the shortage, enough for the inevitable panic buying and price gouging, some for trading, and some for your buddies that thought you were an alarmist.

I've got 2 lbs of Varget if anyone needs it. I'm open for trades. Things I need:
Fed. Standard primers
Fed. Mag. primers
H4831 or H4831sc
IMR 4350
Retumbo
Vihtavouri N570
Nosler 270 cal. 130 accubonds
6.5 cal. 140 gn. Berger vld

Not looking enough or at enough different places. Defender ammunition has powder (13 different types as I type this), third generation shooting supply has powder, PV has had good powder choices the last 6 months. Anyways, it's available and we all need to adjust our lids to what available. Defender has a excellent choice of powder available.
Although Powder Valley has had some powder all year, right now this minute, they have 1 in stock. Yesterday I saw few times it was zero in stock. I have never ever seen that at Powder Valley before..........Third Generation is way low too. Only maybe 5-6 powders on whole site. Defender actually probably has the best selection of some popular powders anywhere right now, but no one seems to want to buy from them because they are not as well known as Midway, Powder Valley, Grafs, Natchez, and Mid South.

But right now, they have IMR 4895, IMR 4064, Staball 6.5, Win 760, IMR 4198, and 10 more. All at reasonable prices. Not as cheap as say Natchez, or Powder Valley, but still reasonable.

I was having problems with my labTop and missed 8# of H1000 here a short time ago from MidSouth. I have gotten 8# of H4350 & H4831 in the last 6 months. I have had my hand up to Varget, and other powders , and primers, brass for over a year now. If you are around a new sporting good store that's being put together. They will have some of the powders wanted, and primers. I have gotten some from 2 new stores that were put in. Yesterday I saw some powders at Sportsman Wearhouse in Missoula Mt, but not what I was looking for. Seem to be a lot more 5.56 ammo on the shelves in most stores now. Price is high. Prices are coming down on ammo, but I would still hold off if not really needed. Overall manufactures ammo is coming back. Top grade brass is hard to come by. So I do put my name in at all the stores on the wish list for items. Items show up from time to time. Good luck!

Don't just check online. Sometimes you have to take that ride up to 50miles to visit the small mom and pop stores that have powder. Picked up 4lbs H4350 couple months ago but it was like I was paying hazmat with it. Dang if you do and dang if you don't.
Check everywhere, we have only found it online the last 9 months…. The struggle is real

With my 338 Lapua. I've had to go to other powders to shoot it. Normally I use H1000. Switch to RL26. The powder I have right now is VV24N41. Just bought 10 lbs of Ramshot LRT from Midsouth the other day. It hasn't shipped yet.

Im just looking for validation from this group, who i know have the best insight. I check 5 different websites every couple days, sites from which ive bought a lot of powder for 10 years. Continuing into the present, nobody has ANY smokeless rifle powder AT ALL. 6 months ago i was able to get a few pounds of V-n130, nothing at all since then.
Frankly I expected it to be a major subject of discussion… is there some secret I'm overlooking? Im not fishing for conspiracy theories, just facts and insights…
After many months of checking online, I was finally able to score an 8# of CFE223 from PV. During that time, I watched as 1# containers and CFEBLK became available and was bought out quickly several times. It really seemed like just a matter of timing.

Getting the powder you want has been slow, but if you are patient you can get all you want.Getting powder has not been a major difficulty for me.Now primers, thats another story.

When I see it available, CFE223 is on my list to purchase. Another powder on my list is Ramshot Magnum. No hurry, I don't "need" them, but I want multiple 8# jugs LOL

You need to sign up for 'back in stock' notifications...that is your best hope. Midsouth, Midway, and many others have them. Then you need to act within minutes of getting the email.
I usually set the "notify" option but have yet been notifed in iver a yearof attempts. My only success was when my brother-in-law visted 2 local shops. Scored H4350, rotumbo as well as primers.
