This just reminds me of my stupidity at times.
I had a Rem 700 BDL first year of manufacture in 17 Remington….it shot exceptionally well and was a dream to clean, stupidly I sold it and have regretted doing so everyday since.
My current 17 is a PITA to keep clean, I want my old rifle back.

No a good friend of mine just bought it from an older fellow who got it from his fatherand i was just trying to confirm what i told him was right that it was probably within the first 5 years or so of 700 production

The reason I sold it was due to the price of fox pelts plummeting here in Australia.
They went from $25 a piece to under $3 overnight. We were selling rabbit and fox pelts for $300 a week, very, very good money back then.
Anyway, I felt there was no need keeping it and sold it, in just over 3 years the fox pelt trade came back and I had no rifle that wouldn't blow the pelts to bits.
Even my .222 made too much damage.

Thats likely a late 80's early 90's action. If it has the original barrel on it you can decipher the build date from the embossed marks near the recoil lug.
The early 700's did not have prefixes in the serial numbers.

This rifle appears to be completely original though im no expert this is why im asking guys who are. I feel like there hasn't been more than a hundred rounds through that action or barrel. The marks on the barel would indicate it to be a june of 1968 manufacturing and third hand info says it was passed from a grandfather to a grandson who is now in his 60s. I understand that this means nothing as far as the true age of the rifle is concerned
