Buyers beware

I would've felt like I'd been mislead. As a member with quite a bit of Trader History here I feel it necessary to humbly chime in on this one. It would appear that the picture angle you provided likely wasn't provided in the sellers original ad because it was unsightly and could've affected the sale of the item. As an avid Buyer/Seller/Trader on this forum I feel that your word is a reflection of who you are, what you represent and how you do business. Conversely, the word (or images in this case) you leave out (intentionally or not) is also a reflection of the aforementioned.

I once sold a barreled action on this forum and did everything I could to provide adequate pictures and a thorough description of the item in question. When the buyer received it he sent me a picture of a defect that I had failed to notice and I was absolutely HORRIFIED and ASHAMED because I had inadvertently sold something that wasn't as I had portrayed it to be. Was a defect (not seen in pictures I provided by the way) that had never caused me any problems and yet still allowed the proper function of the firearm. My attention to detail wasn't what it should've been. I'd made an honest mistake, but it was a reflection on me nonetheless and I immediately sent him funds to replace the defective part. The buyer was completely happy with that resolution and left me heartfelt, positive feedback, but I still feel bad about it to this very day.

My point is as a Seller I feel you have a responsibility as much as humanly possible to give honest full disclosures/accurate descriptions of your items........and if something goes awry (which does happen from time to time......we're human 😇) make things right with your fellow members/customers/friends regardless of the circumstances or intentions behind the sale. I can't speak for anybody else here, but my name and reputation is INFINITELY more important than the "root of all evil".

I meant no disrespect towards any of you but this is how we conduct ourselves on this site, I have had this happen to me as well, on both ends and the results were the same, I might add as @Hecouldgoalltheway stated there are many that silently watch how people react and conduct themselves in situations like this, You find out a lot about folks real quick and the list continues to grow, For all that said there is more to the story and he should have handled this privately, There is and he did and while I will not go into detail I will tell you @RiverSink is total justified in his actions and I have his 6, once again I'm glad he had the stones to post it and hopefully save members here from the same fate @Deputy819, @FEENIX Thank You Gentlemen for being one of the many that make this Forum what it is

Name & reputation is all a person has and is how he/she is seen by others.
As a seller, on another venue, I had advertised and sold a used but fully functional Rem 700 factory wood stock. As I was packing it for shipping I noticed a crack @ the foreward sling bracket. I know I could have 'fixed' the crack but that is not what I had advertised.
I immediated notified the buyer of the fact the stock was not 'fully functional' as advertised and that I had already refunded his purchase price. The buyer was disappointed, of course, but appreciated my honesty and actions. He even gave me a 5 of 5 star rating. LOL

@ButterBean, I appreciate your mention, and I felt no disrespect. And to repeat, not how I would conduct business.
Now, can someone please post a picture of what a barrel channel *should* look like, compared to the one in the OP? I still do not see the defect everyone has pointed out.
Edit to add: I've sold enough stuff to know that dirt, dust and lint, coupled with lighting and camera angle, can make something in a photo look wrong.
Here's a crop of the issue in detail. Thanks - Jim

That's only a small part of the issue. The channel wasn't inletted straight either. Look closely at the pics again, the left side as held by the shooter has had more material removed than the right side. It's clearly sloppy work.

Nothing is leaving McMillan with that sloppy crap there..

@ButterBean,

Since you directed comments at me, I'll reply.

Do I think sellers add was misleading? No, he simply put up an add and said ask for more pictures and ask questions.

Do I think he should have disclosed a FWT action in a Sporter inlet? Yes, but buyer and seller are probably of two different opinions on the severity of the issue.

Do I think the seller should have offered a refund? Absolutely, as long as the rifle could be shipped back to him legally without having to go to an FFL to do the form 4473.

Do I think the buyer dropped the ball in doing his diligence? Yes.

Do I think the buyer has a right to ask for some compensation? Yes.

Do I think the seller should have agreed to return some money for the fix? Yes.

Do I think the feedback left buy the buyer should have been enough? Yes, or leave it in the proper feedback forum not the General Discussion.

I agree on misalignment, but to me that looks like a McMillan aftermarket, purchased with a sporter barrel channel. BUT, I have never purchased a McMillan stock before, so don't know the what/how.
Zoom in on the area I circled. I still don't think you're looking at it closely. It looks like the channel was widened by Helen keller's seeing eye dog.

Thank you. I did not take the time to examine the unit on my computer and never saw what you were calling out. Until now.
Yes, it looks bad. Now I understand @ButterBean's expression of 'hacksaw'.
