In Europa abbiamo un'abbondanza di camosci che sono paragonabili alla tua capra. Normalmente uso un blaser pieghevole 6,5 x 57 R con un proiettile da 8 grammi. Quando vado su una montagna dove so che lo scatto sarà oltre i 300 metri, utilizzo un Mauser 66 Cal 6.5x68, paragonabile al 264 w o un Sauer 7 mm RM. Quando ho la possibilità di incontrare dei cervi, utilizzo un Sabatti Cal 30-06 express o un mannlicher schonauer 7x64.

I know he scouted the area four weekends and went late season with his brother. Hard work and good shooting pay off.

Considering he is my next door neighbor, Iked him how his pic got on this board. He didn't know and did not seem to recognize you.
You seem to be misinformed or just lacking of integrity. He shot that goat with a 300wsm and 180gr bullets. Either way, for the benefit of everyone on here trying to get accurate information, please don't spew false information on the premise of "first hand knowledge".
To Gunnuts, good luck with your hunt and sorry to have dealt with this issue in your thread.

Have killed a sheep and goat both and have been on some other kills. Any good bullet will work for the goat. Have to agree with others, sheep are harder to kill. Maybe not harder to kill but can have more run in them with a lethal shot. Congrats and good luck on your hunt. To me it is just a joy to be in mountain goat country. One word of advice, which you probably already know, look the terrain over very carefully before you shoot. They live in some pretty precarious country. Just make sure you can make a retrieval after a shot. Can fall off some nasty places.

Oh and one more thing. You will discover there are way one white rocks than you have ever noticed before. LOL!!
I know I posted earlier, but practice and confidence outweighs the bullet, (pun).
I can tell you after the months of weekly trips to the local 100 yd range (plus dry fire practice in my basement) and every 2-3 weeks, weekend trips to the 200-500 yd range, I felt confident. I spent more time shooting last summer than I ever have. I did shoot longer than 500 at 12" steel, but I set a limit for myself. I knew I could close distance in the field.
The last stop for me was the weekend before. It was blowing 40-50 mph wind. I was there for final adjustment of the scope, but realized I would not move the scope, and the wind was going to push me right. Cold bore at 200 yds w/ my 280 was 2" right dead zero elevation, consistent with the wind, and second shot, in between wind gusts was dead nuts.
I cased the rifle after these 2 shots and left. With the wind, no need to risk discouraging myself. I "knew" inside 400 I had a dead critter if given the chance. I was willing to go further but range vs. field are quite different. Confidence goes a long way.
Forget all the tips/tricks and go practice. Get confidence and "know" what the longest shot you are willing to take. For a once in a lifetime (well pretty much), put yourself in the best position and take your time.
I want to see this dead goat this fall! Best of luck friend!

I filled my resident WY Mtn goat in 2018. 6.5x284: 140 Berger Hunting VLD's. 1st shot @ 444 yds. He went 30 yds out of sight and bedded, put one more in him to finish the job at 330 yds. He never got up. What area did you draw? My Bro-in-law drew the same tag in 2017....talk about luck!
