7mm-08 Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tip or Accubond

Both are great choices. The 7mm 140 B-Tips are not the same as they were when first introduced. they are not the bombs they used to be and will work nicely even at those closer ranges. As mentioned the TSXs will work very well. One other I would suggest would be the 140 Sierra HPBT Gameking. they are a tough bullet, very accurate and also about $.43 a piece. They will handle any angle or shoulder and are so ugly nobody will steal em.

I've been shooting the Winchester Supreme factory loads with the 140gr Combined Technology bullet (coated ballistic tips), that I bought quite a few years ago, in my 7mm-08 because it shot them well. As I recall, they have always separated from the jacket when I shot deer (whitetail and axis) at closer ranges and never passed through, but they did always kill. If I start hunting deer with it again (out west now), I'll probably go to a less fragile bullet.

I have used 120gr NBT for many years. Even took a TC Encore pistol in 7-08 to Africa for plains game. Many animals one shot kills. Antelope in Wy out to 264 yds. Great little cartridge.
I also had an Encore in 7mm-08 when they first came out, it was very accurate and had a great trigger.

My results also the same with BTips.

Sounds like Accubond are tougher if you feel you need that.
I mostly use the 120BT in my 7mm-08 with AR2208, the stuff Australia make and Hogdon bottle as Varget.
The Winchester factory loads with 139gn Hornady were great on small medium pigs when I first kicked off with my 7mm-08 I enjoy reloading and I like the Nosler BT for accuracy and performance.
I use 120 in the 7mm-08 and will be loading heavier for my .280ai.

I plan to use my 7mm-08 with either Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tips or Accubonds over 49gr of RL19--with muzzle velocity of average 2840fps. Range will be only 25 to 100 yards.
I'm a little concerned about Ballistic Tips fragmenting at the high velocity of close shots, what's your experience and thoughts?

Your aiming point is provably the most important thing that will determine the right bullet for you.

If you prefer throught the shoulder shots than the accubond will work best. Although both bullets in the 7mm-08 will go through the shoulder and reach the vitals.

If you prefer behind the shoulder double lung shots the Ballistic Tip is best, the accubond won't destroy the lungs like the Ballistic Tip does therefore causing a slow kill, don't ask me how I know.

As mentioned before on the Ballistic tip you can slow it down to say 2,800 or 2,700 fps and it will work perfectly.

The 120gr BT is also a great deer bullet and it is a little tougher than 140gr version.

I opened a thread not long ago discussing the performance of bonded and non bonded bullets based on this past hunting season. It has some great info, here is the link:

Last animal i shot with my 7-08 was a fallow at 25 yard. I know crazy. But it was a wild spot and stalk. Shot with 140 accubond. Ran about 100 yards. No blood anywhere. Cut open and it was a great shot but the internal damage was not great. So I don't know how I feel about them.

I think Accubond would be the better choice. There would be less risk of fragmentation at those closer ranges. If you look at the pictures and weights of ballistic tests on the 2, the BT has less retention than the Accubond

For Deer the 7mm-08 and soft bullets are like PB & J, match made in heaven.

At the cartridge's speeds you don't risk bullet blow up, unless you have some crazy load and are pushing them above 2,950 fps and taking shots under 100 yds.
