Hello all i will be trying berger bullets this coming season in one of my 308 win and was wondering the people that use berger bullets for hunting in 308 win or 30-06 what grain weight have you had the best of luck with on white tail from close to long range.ive heard use heavy for caliber when using berger and not sure if u should go with 168s or 170 weights or 180 weight bullets and would like to hear some feed back please thanks

180 Elite hunters have worked well. For hunting ranges, I am starting to think it doesn't much matter with the 308. They all max out relatively close to just shy of 600 yards in my rifle.

152 Hammer Hunters have shot well too.

I have taken 6 elk with their 175gr VLD hunter. It has also shot very well out to 800yds. Loaded them to mag length and found a powder charge almost right away and stopped there. It shot well enough that I never chronographed it, just started using it.

As a general reply this would be my answer.

OP can you give us some details on the rifle you will be using? Barrel length, twist rate, distance you plan to shoot, will it be hunting only or target shooting as well?

I have some 152 shock hammers I'm going to try this year in my other 308 I'm waiting on my 162 grain hammer hunters to get here for my 30-06

The rifle i will be using is a savage model 11 vt 1/10 twist 24inch bull barrel its the most accurate rifle I have and I've shot everything from 150s to 178s out of it all sub to half moa.ranges as of right now for whitetail will be from 20 to 450 possibly 500 yards

Hey Sam,
168 grain class bullets is the "cats meow". I am partial to the AMAX since I have taken numerous deer with it and none required tracking.
Hello rick I really like the amax as well they have shot very well in this rifle best group at 100 yards has been 7/16 of inch and worst was 1/2 inch.that was with 44.5 grains of varget best I've got with 4064 at 44 grains was 9/16 inch havnt tryed any other powders with it yet

Have you tried any heavies?

I had one that shot the 215 Bergers really well. Only 2475 fps, but put that in a calculator and compare to any other and it is pretty impressive.
As it is a heavy barrel, I would give them a shot if you can get them.
My lighter one is a little tougher with this big bullet.
