New custom, NO brass to be had!

If you were in Canada I could point you in the right direction. Just bought 100 pcs of Peterson 280AI brass last week.

One particular company that I have seen has stopped selling to the "larger" distributors like Midway USA, Cabela's and many others, however if you go on that company's web site they have all that is necessary, but............you have to make purchases of 500 or more.

What company has stopped selling to the bigger distributors?

Believe it or not I haven't been able to find 30-06 brass either. The market seems to have dried up on everything. I am hearing the stories, like others on here, that due to the extreme amount of gun sales (9 million in 4 months) there's shortages; then we have the COVID explanation!!???? I don't know what is going on, the extreme gun sales and the COVID explanation do not seem that plausible to me. And......yes you ought to be able to form/fire-form .280 AI brass out of just about any 30-06 brass platform, a good set of dies and a case trimmer; .270, .280, 30-06. Also what I have found is that if someone provides you with a lead on "anything" dealing with reloading components, then................by all means don't wait until after breakfast or dinner because the stuff will be gone. I have had things "sold out" while shopping on the site. Also bring your wallet because some places are truly gouging, and that seems to be very contagious as well. Places that were not gouging either have learned from other sites or are doing so out of necessity. Explanation you ask? Simple... Government and News reports spreading Covid fear propaganda and forcing it down everyone's throats 600 times a day! Millions of folks forced out of work...make that 10s of Millions in North America alone. What happened first? Every single roll of TOILET PAPER AND PAPER PRODUCT you could wipe your @$$ with disappeared...Diarreah isn't a symptom. I never stockpiled TP. But with my bullets I could take your TP....and this is the start of the results of hysteria!

I totally, 100% agree with everything that you have written here. Yesterday 50,000 jobs for those who work in the fossil fuel industry were wiped out with one svelte swoop of a pen!! And that was this new president who is going to unite the country!! And....this is just the beginning. And..................we're hijacking this thread away, perhaps we can start another thread just on this subject alone. Totally agree with your analogy of the situation.

I wonder how many people have taken up reloading as part of their "prepping" for whatever or as to @skipglow to protect their TP stash! Add another 10 million reloaders into mix and components get sucked up fast! Who eeds TP anyway I have white pines in yard. OUCH!
And a shower or tub beside every toilet! Sounds to me like a S***Ty thing to do to a white pine though!

Okay Y'all here is deal I am going to make everyone on this site. I have several larger boxes of mixed brass in my shop. I have 30-06, 270 win, 280 rem, 25-06, 308, 7-08, 260, 284 win, 303 brit (boxer primed), 223, 221 fireball, 222, 17 Mach 4, multiple calibers of revolver and pistol. I ahve already separated out the 30-06 based cases
if you PM me with what you want, I will look and separate out that caliber and give you a count and a price for the brass. I am not going to gouge anyone. the highest I will go is on the rarer brass for 50 cents per case. that is it.

Graf & Sons shows having 280 Peterson brass (Bulk- 500) in stock. Load them, shot, and they will fire form. I had a 280AI and that is what I did for it.

Had a 280AI built by Southern Precision..... Defiance, Bartlein, XLR Chassis, Triggertech, Theta. I have been unable to find any Peterson brass to purchase for over 6 months. In fact, I've been unable to find ANY quality 280AI brass. Anyone out there willing to sell some or perhaps trade some for primers or Lapua brass(6.5 CM or 338 Lapua). FTF obviously if primers, I'm in N TX. Any help is greatly appreciated
Just received 2 boxes of standard 280 Rem Peterson brass from Graf and Sons this past week.

270Win would be an easy one to load for your 280AI. I'd give 25-06 a shot too. 30-06 should pretty easy to find as well. Don't focus on the headstamp on the case and be careful if you mix brass as some -06 cases are slightly longer than others. You 280AI should be fine with either though as should be using the longer -06 case. The slightly shorter case options should be benign in your rifle.

That's a big part of the reason I like xx-06 family of rounds which for me includes a 25-06, 280 Rem, and 338-06.

Study some on it, fireforming isn't hard at all. Due to the time expense and barrel wear I'd only do it with top shelf brass in hopes of best life and consistency.

Read up on the subject but I believe 270 win and 280 rem will be your best brass choices. If you use 25 or 30-06 they may be too short for your needs.

Also, it sounds like you're sourcing assorted brass. If so, it could effect your ES and worst case if loaded hot could be dangerous due to differences in internal capacity from one make to the next.

My opinion, source 25-100 rounds of the same make and lot in 270 or 280, buy some cheap bullets and have fun fireforming.

Fire forming some factory 280 Remington might be an option too if you find any in stock.

My 338-06 is an AI so, in a pinch I have no issue grabbing a box of 338-06 A-Square (30-06 with a simple conversion to a .338 neck) and using that instead. In the end, I have more 338-06AI brass so it joins the existing brass at the reloading station. In reality, though, once fired 30-06 brass is plentiful around where I live so, a 6-pack of local beer for a baggy of freshly shot brass is an easy trade for me at the end of the day when packing up to go home.
