Hard to believe

Have to comment again! People who know that I shoot LR competively have commented on how good they are at LR shooting. Something like "I shot my bull elk at 900 something yards with a one shot kill!" Asking what they were using they'd say something like a 30-30. Wow, how did you make that shot? "Just held slightly above his back and shot."

Well, I know my competition 308 has 24 ft of drop at 1000 yards. His scope must have been way off!
I have heard similar stories, one guy told after 400 yards you just crack light on the back and the hold increases as the yardage does. Some years later we were shooting ground hogs 400 yards in with a 22-250 REM 700 heavy barrel 55 grain Federal factory rounds . Clear mostly windless day and we killed quite a few and miss as many as we killed. I heard later we were slaying them at 650 yards!

I ran into a guy at the range TRYING to hit the steel ram @ 500mtr with his new 300 Weatherby. When I told him it was falling short a good 150mtrs, he exclaimed that was impossible as the 300 Bee shot flat to 400, then rose up a bit and was dead on at 600...which he fully believed.
He also ran out of elevation adjustment at around 430, so when another shooter told him he had to aim ABOVE the target to hit it, he was totally fuming and yelling that he was taking it back to the store that sold it to him. Hahahahaha. For a full REFUND. Lol.

Cheers.

It's

I guess he must have thought he was shooting a Creedmoor !

Was watching some sniper movie awhile back and the two leads are in a bar. One brags to the other "I use a bullet with a custom spin drift". Seriously, these hollyweird types have absolutely no clue, no skills. The guy with the 300WM was probably the result of our modern media and those highly paid 'educators' in the skools.
Take 'Mission Impossible" for example. Back in the day, Phelps came up with a great plan. Barney would have some kewl device to help out. The big guy would add some muscle - it was a team effort with something known as a 'plot'.
Now we have guys like Cruz jumping out of an airplane or something and landing on a canopy unscathed, then running thru a hail of machine gun fire and subduing the bad guys all by himself. Then the hollyweird types expect us to worship these 'heroes' as some kind of gods.

And that my friends is what Hollywood is calling entertainment!

I'm a longtime member of the forum Pmacc is referencing, he's the reason I signed up here. The guy in question comes up with these tales on a regular basis but adds enough technological background to sound like he knows his stuff. It's hard to tell if he actually expects people to believe him or if he's just trying to be entertaining, if it's not true it should be kind of thing. Seems like most everyone there knows the deal but goes along with it anyway.

Pmacc; Catch you around mister!

Mr F-270 you are correct but he really pushed the envelope this time, also it is true we have turned the blind eye. Sad thing is he builds some nice rifles and has a nice shop . For members who are not familiar with F -270, I know him from another forum and he is a great addition to LRH , I have enjoyed many of his post about thoughts and family. He is a level headed man with a desire to be a better shooter and hunter. I'm glad to see him post.

Thanks for the kind words.

Your knowledge of the math involved is the difference with this one, no way to get around that without getting busted. Things may be toned down for awhile I'd guess.

I've been poking around in here a little for a few weeks now, finding this thread pushed me into signing up. Long range shooting isn't my thing really but I'm aware enough to know that the knowledge gained from it provides benefits down the line. Nothing wrong with expanding one's horizons either.

Up and down the best forum I know of , these guys are great , friendly and knowledgable. I wondering if I should post hard to believe part 2 ?

I read on another forum that a long time user and shooter claims he is making consistent shots on prairie dogs at 850 yards with his AR 223 shooting 40 and 50 grain bullets ! He then said he is making these shots in 30 mph crosswinds !! I find this impossible to believe but I wanted to ask all of you if you have ever seen anyone perform this feat ? I did not call him out because I did not want to embarrass him for his canard , especially if it's not personal. My only thought was magic bullets !
850 yards! with an AR...shooting 40gr & 50gr bullets, 30 mph wind??? Wow!!, if that's how this bang switch puller measures distance I'm sure his wife is "extremely" disappointed. Just saying.
